Bhoopnath wins 13th KIIT International Chess Festival 2022 Category 'B' Below 1900

Both Bhoopnath and newly crowned National Amateur Under-1700 Open champion, Kushal O scored an unbeaten 8.5/10. They faced each other in the final round and the game was drawn. Bhoopnath clinched the first place at 13th KIIT International Chess Festival Category B (Below 1900) due to better tie-breaks, Kushal had to settle for second place. Krishna Karthik N was adjuged third out of four players who finished with a score of 8/10. Total prize fund for Category B was ₹600000. Chessable Masters 2022 F1: Ding Liren gains advantage

Ding Liren won the first game at the Chessable Masters Finals. How did Praggnanandhaa react? He immediately struck back in the second game to level the score. Until that loss, Ding Liren suffered only one loss against Mamedyarov out of 24 games he had played in this event. The 16-year-old lost the third game and drew the fourth, thus the World no.2 won the first set of Finals. Now, Praggnanandhaa must win the second set of the Finals to force tie-breaks, irrespective of the set score. Can Praggnanandhaa win the second set and force tie-breaks? Sarayu Velpula is an example of how a tremendous talent's progress can be slowed down because of lack of funds. Born in 2006, the young girl from Warangal, Telangana is currently rated around 1900. However, her talent is massive and this is attested by the fact that she has won two national titles (under-11 and 13) and beaten many top Indian juniors like Divya Deshmukh, R. Vaishali, Varshini, Savitha Shri, Rakshitta and many more. In order to help her speed up her progress and give her more opportunities, Sarayu gets the January 2022 YouTube fund of Rs.55,853. We also have two donors who combined have contributed Rs.15,502 additionally, which brings the amount to Rs.71,355. 

13th KIIT GM Open R3-4: Nitin in a five-way lead

IM Nitin S is the only Indian player with a perfect score 4/4 at 13th KIIT International Chess Festival 2022. The remaining four are - GM Farrukh Amonatov (TJK), GM Aleksej Aleksandrov, GM Stupak Kirill and IM Shota Azaladze (GEO). Nitin won an exciting game against IM Mihail Nikitenko in the fourth round. IM Ameya Audi got himself very close to beating GM Boris Savchenko. Double IM-norm holder, FM Aaryan Varshney made an impressive draw against GM Luka Paichadze (GEO). 5th Sharjah Masters 2022 R1-4: Abhijeet Gupta makes a perfect start

Abhijeet Gupta has made a fantastic start at 5th Sharjah Masters 2022. He won all four of his games to gain sole lead 4/4. Three out of four wins were against strong 2600+ - Shant Sargsyan, Raunak Sadhwani and Misratdin Iskandarov (AZE). Only three players - Salem Saleh (UAE), Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU) and Mustafa Yilmaz (TUR) are trailing by a half point at 3.5/5. A total of 80 players from 30 countries including 59 GMs, 15 IMs, 2 WGMs and a WIM are taking part in this strong field. Total prize fund is US$ 60000, first prize US$ 10000. Earlier this year, when Praggnanandhaa faced Giri in the first round of Tata Steel Chess 2022, it was the Dutch no.1 who came up with a novelty. A little over five months later, the 16-year-old set the tone of the day when he scored an emphatic victory in the second game with his own novelty. Giri levelled the score in the fourth game to force tie-breaks. The wunderkind once again showed his tenacity by winning the first tie-break and making a draw in the next one. He will face his second-toughest challenge of the event against World no.2 in the Final. Ding Liren beat Carlsen in the Semifinals without losing a single game. Jan-Krzysztof Duda wins Superbet Rapid and Blitz 2022, Anand shares second place with Aronian

Vishy Anand played fantastic chess at Superbet Rapid and Blitz 2022. Despite starting the final day with two losses and a draw, he persevered and scored 4 points in the next six games to finish with 23.5/36. Levon Aronian also scored the same. However, Jan-Krzysztof Duda once again scored an important last round victory to win the tournament 24/36. Duda has all the momentum on his side heading into the Candidates 2022 with two important tournament victories. He has shown strong nerves since his FIDE World Cup 2021 triumph. Chessable Masters 2022 QF: Praggnanandhaa eliminates Wei Yi, set to clash with Giri in the Semifinal

Praggnanandhaa became the first Indian to advance to a MCCT event Semifinal. He beat Wei Yi convincingly 1.5-2.5 in the Quarterfinals to set up a clash with Anish Giri. Both Giri and Carlsen took the minimum number of games to win their Quarterfinal matches. Giri is yet to lose a single game in this event. Both Pragg and Ding Liren lost a game each in the Quarterfinals. Pragg is playing at a different level since Oslo Esports Cup and he seems to be in a very good place to end Giri's unbeaten streak. Former National Under-13 Girls, current Telangana State Under-19 Girls and State Women champion, Sarayu Velpula held GM Karthikeyan P to a draw. The second round of 13th KIIT International Chess Festival also saw the seeded players score victories comfortably. Newly crowned National Amateur U-2300 champion, Koustav Chakraborty made things exciting against IM Mihail Nikitenko. Six champions crowned at MPL 9th National Amateur Chess Championship 2022

The ninth edition of MPL National Amateur Chess Championships 2022 witnessed a total participation of 440 players from 23 different states across the nation. Six new champions were crowned in six different categories. They are - Kushal O (AP) in Under-1700 Open, Prishita Gupta (DEL) in Under-1700 Women, Pradeep Tiwari (DASCB) in Under-2000 Open, Prishita Gupta (DEL) in Under-2000 Women, Koustav Chakraborty (WB) in Under-2300 Open and Shubhi Gupta (UP) in Under-2300 Women. 13th KIIT GM Open R1: 10-year-old Sathvik Adiga stuns GM Raset Ziatdinov

10-year-old 1607-rated Sathvik Adiga scored the biggest upset of the first round against GM Raset Ziatdinov (USA, 2224). The 13th edition of KIIT International Chess Festival witnesses the participation of 174 players including 11 GMs, 14 IMs, a WGM and 3 WIM in Category A from 10 countries across the world including India. The Category B (Below 1900) has a total participation of 327 players. The total prize fund of the festival is ₹25,00,000. Chessable Masters 2022 R13-15: Praggnanandhaa advances to the Quarterfinals

Praggnanandhaa swindled Vidit in a completely lost position to win the crucial game. He became the second Indian to advance to the knockout stage of a Meltwater Champions Chess Tour event. Arjun Erigaisi was the first to do so last year in June. A win in the final round of Prelims would have seen Vidit make the cut instead of his opponent. The 16-year-old defeated Abhimanyu Mishra, drew with Sam Shankland then beat his fellow countryman to setup a clash with Wei Yi in the Quarterfinals. The remaining six Quarterfinalists are - Anish Giri, Magnus Carlsen, Ding Liren, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, David Anton Guijarro and Aryan Tari. Quarterfinals start tonight at 9:30 p.m. IST.

Superbet R&B 2022 Day 4: Vishy Anand continues his great momentum

Vishy Anand continues his fantastic form in the Blitz event of Superbet Rapid and Blitz 2022. He started the day with a defiant win over Jan-Krzysztof Duda, scored 5.0/9 to take his score to 19.0/27. Duda is trailing by 1.5 points at second place 17.5/27. He is followed by Fabiano Caruana and Levon Aronian at 17.0/27 each. Caruana scored a massive 8.0/9 to reduce the gap between him and Anand. The only two draws were against Duda and Aronian. The only two-time FIDE World Cup winner in history, also remained undefeated in the Blitz event so far. 971 players participate in MPL 10th National School Chess Championships 2022

MPL 10th National School Chess Championships 2022 witnessed a total participation of 971 players from 26 different states across the nation. Tamil Nadu dominated the medal tally by winning the maximum number of golds and total number of medals among all states across the nation. National School championship is the biggest National championship of the country in terms of total number of players participation. The tournament was organized by All Odisha Chess Association in association with Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) from 16th to 20th May 2022. Chessable Masters 2022 R9-12: Anish Giri climbs to the top

Anish Giri soared to the top of the leaderboards by winning three games and splitting the point once. He is now one of the two unbeaten players in Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Chessable Masteres so far. The other one is Ding Liren. Giri is at 24/36, followed by Carlsen 23/36, Ding Liren 22/36 and Wei Yi 20/36. Praggnanandhaa and Harikrishna are at seventh and eighth place 18/36 and 15/36 respectively. Both Pragg and Vidit had four decisive games each. Pragg's win against Jorden van Foreest is a model game on how to win when your oppponent's pieces are cramped.
