Anton Sitnikov wins 16th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit 2024, Lokesh second and Suyog third

IM Anton Sitnikov (UKR) and Lokesh N scored 7/9 each at 16th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament 2024. Anton won the tournament as he had beaten Lokesh in the second round. They both finished a full point ahead of the rest. FM Suyog Wagh and FM Mohamed Anees M scored 6/9 each. They were placed third and fourth respectively according to tie-breaks. The six-day ten-player round-robin tournament was organized by Kanyakumari District Chess Association at Hotel VLR Residency in Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu from 30th January to 4th February 2024. Anton Sitnikov triumphs at 15th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit 2024, Karthik Rajaa second

IM Anton Sitnikov scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to win 15th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament 2024. He finished a full point ahead of the field. The winner of the 13th edition, FM Karthik Rajaa scored 6.5/9 to secure second place. GM Manik Mikulas (SVK) scored an unbeaten 6/9 to finish third. The six-day ten-player round robin tournament was organized by Tamil Nadu State Chess Association at Hotel Applettree in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu from 23rd to 28th January 2024. Mihajlo Stojanovic wins Basel Carnival 2024, Himal Gusain second

GM Mihajlo Stojanovic (SRB) scored an unbeaten 4.5/5 to win Basel Carnival 2024 Open. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Eight players - IM Himal Gusain, IM Harry Grieve (ENG), FM Deyan Samuil Kostov (BUL), GM Alexandre Dgebuadze (BEL), Simon Schweizer (JPN), Johannes Rappazzo (SUI), Nicolas Kaser (SUI) and Bernd Reinhardt (GER) scored 4/5 each. They were placed second to ninth respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was CHF 5200. The top three prizes were CHF 1000, 800 and 600 each. The three-day five round Rating Open tournament was organized by Claudio Boschetti - Swiss CHess Tour at Landgasthof Riehen in Riehen, Switzerland frm 2nd to 4th February 2024. Photos: Official site

Play Sardinia World Chess Festival 2024 in Italy's strongest tournament ever with a €50100 prize fund

Unichess and Emmedi Sport ASD invite you to Sardinia World Chess Festival 2024. The inaugural edition of this festival is offering a total prize fund of €50100. The top three prizes are €10000, €6000 and €4000 each. There are three categories - Open A (>1999), Open B (<2000) and Open C (<1600). There are 15 main prizes in Open A and ten each in Open B and C. That's not all. Total 78 prizes are up for grabs. Entry is FREE for players rated above 2450. For everyone else, entry fee is €100 by 31st March €130 till 15th April after organizing committee agrees. Eleven players have 2600, 19 players above 2500, 17 GMs and 9 IMs have already confirmed participation from 15 countries across the world. Simultaneous Chess Exhibition with Grandmaster Sethuraman

On Saturday 10th February, Kilpauk Chess Centre organized a Simultaneous exhibition against the reigning National champion GM S P Sethuraman. It was held at Bhavan's Rajaji Vidyashram in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. 43 players got an opportunity to play against the former Asian champion and 41st Olympiad Bronze medalist. The Grandmaster won all his games in a little over five hours. The final score was 43-0 in favor of the GM. Even after the grueling exhibition, Sethuraman took the time to analyze games with the players. He also had a Q&A session with the players and parents. Registration starts for the ChessBase India Training Camp in April

After many wonderful training camps organized in 2023, ChessBase India is bringing them once again in 2024! The first training camp of this year will be organized from 2nd to 7th April at the ChessBase India Training Academy located in Bhopal. Just like last time, a total of 12 players can participate in this camp. FIDE instructor Niklesh Jain and Women International Master Angela Franco of Colombia will be the trainers! This camp will run from Tuesday, 2nd April till Saturday, 6th April - after that, the next day on Sunday, 7th April, the participants of the camp will get a chance to participate in the ChessBase India Khelo Chess India Rapid Tournament among the players from all over the state! Bangladesh Police regains Bangabandhu Premier League 2024

Bangladesh Police regained their Bangabandhu Premier Division Chess League title in a dominant fashion. The defending champion, SAIF Sporting Club did not take part in this edition. Bangladesh Police won the tournament with a round to spare. They still defeated Bangladesh Biman in the last round to finish with 19/20, four points ahead of the runners-up teams. Palli Sanchay Bank and Titas Club scored 15/20 each. They were placed second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. IM Mohammad Nubairshah Shaikh earned his final GM-norm. FIDE World Corporate Chess Championship 2024 Finals to take place in New York

The second edition of FIDE World Corporate Chess Championship 2024 will be held in three stages. Online Qualifiers will take place from 16th March to 14th April. Top eight teams of each Qualifier will play Knockout on 20th April. The online team matches will be played on lichess. The Finals will take place between top eight teams from 14th to 17th June in New York, USA. The event is open to teams representing legally recognized companies all around the world. A company can have more than one team. Each team has a right to invite a player who is not directly employed or a member of the board. In any round at any stage, each team must have at least one male and one female player playing. In each team, only one player is allowed to have FIDE standard rating above 2400 according to the January 2024 FIDE Rating list. Photo: FIDE

Yash Bharadia dominates 1st Dhundhadh Cup Rapid Rating Open 2024 with a 100% score

Rajasthan's very own CM Yash Bharadia won 1st Dhundhadh Cup Rapid Rating Open 2024 with a 100% score 9/9. The National Junior (Under-19) Open 2023 Bronze medalist finished a full point ahead of the rest. CM Soham Datar and Yashpal Arora scored 8/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹220000. The top three prizes were ₹20000, ₹15000 and ₹10000 along with a trophy each. The two-day rapid rating tournament was organized by Jaipur Chess Coaching on 27th and 28th January 2024 at Sangam Community Centre in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Magnus Carlsen wins the inaugural Weissenhaus Freestyle G.O.A.T. Challenge

Magnus Carlsen (NOR) defeated Fabiano Caruana (USA) in the second game of the Finals to win WEISSENHAUS Freestyle Chess G.O.A.T. Challenge. After losing to D Gukesh, Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) in the Playoff Rapid, the world no.1 suffered his sole Classical time control loss against Alireza Firouzja (FRA). However, he changed his gear and drove straight towards the finish line without any speed bumps. Levon Aronian (USA) finished third by defeating Abdusattorov. Firouzja won his match versus Gukesh to finish fourth. The top five finishers have qualified to the next G.O.A.T. Challenge. A dozen champions crowned at 12th National Schools Chess Championships 2024

The 12th National School Chess Championships 2024 witnessed a participation of 885 players from 29 different states and union territories across the nation. Tamil Nadu state bagged the maximum number of medals - nine, four Gold, two Silver and three Bronze medal. Karnataka won five medals, two Gold and Silver each, and one Bronze. Kerala secured four medals, a Gold, two Silver and a Bronze. Nine out of the twelve champions - Sukriti Rhea S (TN), Oishik Mondal (WB), Divi Brijesh (KER), Rishen Jilowa (RAJ), Pratitee Bordoloi (KAR), CM Md. Reyan (BIH), Arnav Agrawal (UP), CM Shadhursshaan R (TN) and Sindhushree K (TN) in U-7 Girls, U-9 Open, U-9 Girls, U-11 Open, U-11 Girls, U-13 Open, U-15 Open, U-17 Open and U-17 Girls category respectively, remained undefeated. Weissenhaus Freestyle G.O.A.T. Challenge Final: Calm before storm

Magnus Carlsen (NOR) drew against Fabiano Caruana (USA) in the first game of the Finals of WEISSENHAUS Freestyle Chess G.O.A.T. Challenge. It was a relatively quiet draw. Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) missed a great opportunity to beat Levon Aronian (USA). The former World Rapid champion had a significant decisive advantage in the rook endgame. His delay in activating his king cost him a valuable half point as his opponent escaped with a draw. Alireza Firouzja (FRA) and Vincent Keymer (GER) won their respective 5th - 6th place and 7th - 8th place games against D Gukesh and Ding Liren (CHN).
