Prague Masters 2024 R2: Gukesh beats Thai Dai Van

D Gukesh defeated Thai Dai Van Nguyen (CZE) in Round 2 of Prague International Chess Festival 2024 Masters. The Czech Republic no.2 made an exchange sacrifice, which did not work out the way he wanted. A blunder in time trouble cost R Praggnanandhaa his game against Parham Maghsoodloo (IRI). He emerged an early sole leader 2/2. Vidit Gujrathi drew against Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) comfortably. Gukesh vs Vidit and Praggnanandhaa vs Richard Rapport (ROU) will take place in Round 3. Mitrabha Guha convincingly wins Gold at Commonwealth 2023-24, Rohith Silver and Deepan Bronze

GM Mitrabha Guha defeated the sole leader IM S Rohith Krishna in the final round to win Commonwealth Chess Championship 2023-24. Unlike last edition, Mitrabha ensured that he plays for Gold by going for nothing but the win. That is what he achieved by scoring a hat-trick of wins to finish the event at the top. Rohith secured Silver. GM Deepan Chakkravarthy and GM Vignesh N R also scored 7/9 each like Rohith. Deepan won Bronze due to better tie-breaks. Vignesh claimed Gold in the Blitz Open event scoring 9/11. This time he ensured no tie-breaks were needed by finishing a half point ahead of the rest. GM Jingyao Tin (SGP) and GM Swapnil S Dhopade scored 8.5/11 each. They won Silver and Bronze medal respectively. Prague Masters 2024 R1: Praggnanandhaa makes a scintillating start

R Praggnanandhaa scored a fantastic victory over Vincent Keymer in the first round of Prague International Chess Festival 2024 Masters. The world no.13 made a thematic knight sacrifice in the Italian opening against the Germany no.1. The exposed kingside is not practically easy to defend. Keymer eventually faltered and his opponent seized his advantage. D Gukesh had a small opportunity to avoid the trade of queens against Richard Rapport (ROU). It would have allowed him to maintain pressure on his opponent's kingside. Rapport managed to alleviate the attacking chances by exchanging queens. Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) and Parham Maghsoodloo (IRI) are the only two other victors in the Masters section. It will be Parham vs Praggnanandhaa, Thai Dai Van Nguyen (CZE) vs Gukesh and Vidit vs Abdusattorov in Round 2. Club de Ajedrez Dama Negra and IO Patricia Claros Aguilar invite you to VIII Semana Santa International Open 2024. The eighth edition of this tournament is offering a total prize fund of €20050. The top three prizes are €4000, €2000 and €1500 along with a trophy each. The winner also gets invitation to XXI Gran Hotel Bali International Chess Festival 2024 which will take place in November. There are two categories - Group A (Open) and Group B (<1900). There are 11 main prizes in Group A and many category prizes. Entry is FREE for GMs and IMs. For everyone else, entry fee is €65, €50 for Dama Negra Club players. Total 366 players including 24 GMs, 54 IMs, 3 WGMs and 4 WIMs from 49 countries in Group A and 155 players have already confirmed their participation in Group B. 8-year-old Ashwath Kaushik becomes the youngest ever to beat a Grandmaster in Classical Chess

In a world where experience is often said to take the lead, Young prodigies are proving it wrong. A 8 year old boy defeated a Grandmaster in Classical Chess and becomes the youngest ever to break this world record! Ashwath Kaushik from Singapore made history by becoming the youngest player to defeat a Grandmaster in Classical Chess at the tender age of 8 years, 6 months and 11 days. Praggnanandhaa, Vidit and Gukesh set to battle world's best at Prague International Chess Festival 2024 Masters

The sixth edition of Prague International Chess Festival 2024 starts today. Four Indian Candidates will be seen in action - R Praggnanandhaa, Vidit Gujrathi, D Gukesh and R Vaishali. The first three will play in the Masters section, while Vaishali will battle in the Challengers. That's not all. The reigning 36th National Under-11 Open 2023 champion, Aansh Nandan Nerurkar will play in the Futures group. This year, the Indian participation in the round-robin events is the highest ever at this event. The legend - Vishy Anand opened the festival. Isha Sharma wins 2nd Felix Sasomi Under 2200 Rating Tournament 2024

WIM Isha Sharma scored 8/9 to win 2nd Felix Sasomi Under 2200 Rating Tournament 2024. She finished a half point ahead of the competition. After a 4/4 start, Isha lost her fifth round game against 11-year-old Andrei Negrean (ROU). However, Isha bounced back by winning the next four games to become a clear champion. FM Csaba Zoltan Varga (ROU) secured second place 7.5/9, Andrei third, according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was €14000. The top three prizes were €2400 + cup, €1600 and €1200 each respectively. It is not everyday we get to witness a woman winning an open/rating restricted tournament. Six new champions crowned at 11th National Amateur Chess Championships 2024

The eleventh edition of National Amateur Chess Championships 2024 witnessed a total participation of 620 players from 27 different states, union territories and units across the nation. Six new champions were crowned in six different rating categories. They are: Shreyas (DEL) - Below 1700 Open, Ruhani Raj Asudani (GUJ) - Below 1700 Women, Devansh Shah (MAH) - Below 2000 Open, Saniya Rafique Tadavi (MAH) - Below 2000 Women, Harish Sharma (DEL) - Below 2300 Open and Shanmathi Sree S (TN) in Below 2300 Women. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹300000. It was organized by Jaipur District Chess Association at Sawai Man Singh Indoor Stadium in Jaipur, Rajasthan from 13th to 17th February 2024. Chess in Lakecity invites you to 6th Holi Cup Rating Open 2024

The sixth edition of Holi Cup Rating Open tournament is a little over a month away. A total of 373 players have already registered for it from various parts of the country. From 31st March to 4th April 2024, it will take place at Orbit Resort in Udaipur, Rajasthan. The first edition took place back in 2017. IM Chakravarthi Reddy won the fifth edition last year. The total prize fund is same as last year ₹1501000. Total number of prizes are 116. There are three prizes worth ₹100000 and more. Apart from that, there are five prizes worth over ₹50000. The beautiful world of Anish Giri and Sopiko Guramishvili

After an intense tournament at Weissenhaus, Sagar and Amruta had a week before they went to the Prague Masters. They decided to use this time to visit the residence of Anish Giri and Sopiko Guramishvili in the Hague. The plan was to record an opening video course for ChessBase. This was done quite efficiently in the 3 days and the course is 7 hours long covering all the openings of chess. However, the trip turned out to be much more than just recordings. For the author it was experiencing the life of a beautiful family and how one combines ambition, love and respect together.

Checkmate Cancer - A tournament for a noble cause on World Cancer Day

Revolutionary Chess Corps organized Checkmate Cancer on World Cancer Day, 4th February. Apart from giving the youth and talented players of Nashik, an opportunity to compete, the heart of the initiative was a noble cause - checkmate cancer through awareness and support. Dr. Swapnanjali Awhad, a prominent gynecologist and President of the Indian Medical Association, explained the causes of cancer. Dr. Roshankumar Patil, a well-known radiation oncologist of Cancer Center of America, Nashik, lectured the parents on several types of cancer, its causes, and effects. Ritviz Parab convincingly clinches Durga Motors Rapid Rating Open 2024

IM Ritviz Parab scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win Durga Motors Rapid Rating Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Mandar Pradip Lad scored sole 8/9 to finish second. Four players - IM Bhakti Kulkarni, Ravindra Nikam, Muchandi Karthik and Mayuresh Laxlabh Desai scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed third to sixth respectively according to tie-breaks. Ritviz's sole draw was against the top seed Nitish. Mandar suffered his only loss of the event against Bhakti. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹100000. The top three prizes were ₹35000, ₹16000 and ₹10000 along with a trophy each. The two-day rapid rating tournament was organized by Rotary Club of Porvorim, sponsored by Durga Motors Porvorim, on 10th and 11th February 2024 at Dr. K B Hedgewar School, Cujira in Bambolim, Goa. Grand Chess Tour 2024: Praggnanandhaa and Gukesh named full tour participants

Grand Chess Tour 2024 season full tour participants names have been revealed. Out of the nine full tour participants, there are two Indians - R Praggnanandhaa and D Gukesh. The remaining seven are - Fabiano Caruana (USA), GCT 2023 winner, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA), Wesley So (USA), Ian Nepomniachtchi, Alireza Firouzja (FRA), Anish Giri (NED) and Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB). Since the inception of the tour in 2015, after Vishy Anand, Praggnanandhaa and Gukesh are the next two Indians to become a full tour participant. The total prize fund of the season has been increased to US$ 1.5 Million. The prize fund for each of the two Classical tournaments willb e $350000 and $175000 per event for Rapid and Blitz. Vikramaditya Kulkarni victorious at 360 One Wealth GP Series 3 Rating Open 2024

IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni scored an unbeaten 6.5/7 to win 360 One Wealth GP Series 3 Rating Open 2024. The top seed of the tournament finished a half point ahead of the competition. Despite a second draw against 9-year-old Reyaansh Venkat, Vikramaditya won the next five games consecutively to become the champion. Four players - Arnav Mahesh Koli, Sanjeev Mishra, Amardeep S Bartakke and Yash Kapadi scored 6/7 each. They were placed second to fifth respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹250000. The top three prizes were ₹50000 + trophy, ₹30000 and ₹25000 each. This was Vikramaditya's first tournament triumph of 2024. Farhaan dominates Alekhine Memorial Rapid Rating Open 2024

Farhaan M scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win Alekhine Memorial Rapid Rating Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Second seeded IM Rahul Sangma scored 8/9 to finish second. His sole loss was against the eventual champion, Farhaan. Gavi Siddayya, Kartavya Anadkat and Augustin A scored 7.5/9. They were placed third to fifth respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹16000 + trophy, ₹15000 and ₹14000 each. The two-day rapid rating tournament was organized by Innovators Chess Academy on 3rd and 4th February 2024 at Silicon City Academy of Secondary Education in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
