Fabiano Caruana wins Superbet Classic for the second year in-a-row after a hat-trick in Playoffs

Anish Giri (NED) scored the sole win of the final round against Fabiano Caruana (USA). It forced him to play more games in Playoffs. Alireza Firouzja (FRA) was winning against R Praggnanandhaa. That win would have made him a clear champion. However, the teenager denied him the full point. Caruana won all three of his Playoff games against Gukesh, Firouzja and Praggnanandhaa. That made him clinch Superbet Classic for the second consecutive year. Firouzja won two, Gukesh one and Praggnanandhaa could not manage to score any point. Gukesh won his sole Playoff game against Praggnanadhaa. Caruana won US$ 68750. Firouzja, Praggnanandhaa and Gukesh received $58750 each. All four of them scored 9.25 GCT points. ChessBase India and Phoenix Marketcity Mumbai is organizing 1st Phoenix Marketcity Rapid Rating Open 2024. The tournament will take place on International Chess Day on 20th July. Thus, it is also part of Guinness World Records official attempt. The inaugural edition of this event is offering a first prize of ₹20000 and a total prize fund of ₹100000. Total 49 prizes, 25 main and 24 special prizes are up for grabs. Entry is FREE for GM, IM, WGM and WIMs. For everyone else, it is ₹300 till 15th July, afterward it will be ₹500. Fabiano Caruana (USA) drew with R Praggnanandhaa to maintain his sole lead at Grand Chess Tour Superbet Classic 2024. The World no.3 now has a chance to win this tournament for the second year in-a-row. He will face Anish Giri (NED) in the final round. D Gukesh shared the point with Giri in the penultimate round. The World Championship Challenger came up with a great preparation. However, it was not enough to subdue the Netherlands no.1. The longest game of the round lasted for 84 moves between Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) and Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU). It was November 2013 when a seven-year-old boy from Chennai, attended the World Championship match between Viswanathan Anand and Magnus Carlsen. Little did he know that 11 years later, he would find himself in a similar position, but this time as a challenger for the World Championship title! Gukesh Dommaraju has become the youngest chess player ever to win the Candidates Tournament at just 17 years old. Now, he will challenge the reigning World Champion Ding Liren for the title in Singapore in November 2024. As Gukesh won the Candidates, ChessBase India flew down to Chennai to do a short interview with Gukesh's mother Padma Kumari.

Sharan Rao wins a double at 2nd Rahulians International Chess Festival 2024

IM Sharan Rao scored an unbeaten 8.5/10 to win 2nd Rahulians International Chess Festival 2024. Two more players Vignesh B and FM Isuru Alahakoon (SRI) also scored 8.5/10 each. They secured second and third place according to tie-breaks. Vignesh also remained undefeated. The total prize fund of the tournament was LKR 1300000. The top three prizes in the Classical event were LKR 150000, 100000 and 75000 along with a trophy and medal each. For Blitz, the top three prizes were LKR 30000, 25000 and 20000 along with a trophy and medal each. This was Sharan's third and fourth tournament triumph of the year. Superbet Classic 2024 R7: Gritty Gukesh survives against Caruana

The highly anticipated battle between D Gukesh and Fabiano Caruana (USA) ended in a draw in Round 7 of Grand Chess Tour Superbet Classic 2024. However, things were not easy for Gukesh. He had to defend an inferior queen and rook endgame. Caruana could have increased his sole lead if he played correctly. Gukesh showed his grit and managed to salvage a draw. Wesley So (USA) is the only other player who was close to earning a full point against Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB). He also could not find a way to convert his advantage into a full point. HelpChess Foundation raises Rs.54 lakh in 2023-24 for Indian chess

In 2018, we began the activities of ChessBase India Foundation with our first scholarship of Rs.50,000. Since then the Foundation has grown massively. We now call it the HelpChess Foundation for the last 3 years. It is a Charitable Trust (12A registered), it has a CSR number and it also provides the contributors with tax benefits (80G). In the year 2023-24 (1st of April 2023 to 31st of March 2024) HelpChess has raised Rs.54 lakh for Indian chess. More than 900 people have contributed to this. Each and every penny of this fund received will be utilized to power Indian chess. In the article below we give you all the details of how this fund was raised and who are the players we are supporting. More than 30 players have received support from the amount that was raised.

FIDE World Cup Cadets 2024: Pratitee Bordoloi secures Silver, Bronze for Sattwik Swain

The reigning National Under-11 Girls 2023, National Schools U-11 Girls 2024 and Commonwealth Under-12 Girls 2023-24 Champion, Pratitee Bordoloi won Silver in Unde-12 Girls at the inaugural FIDE World Cup for Cadets. Just days before this event, she won an individual Gold and Silver at the 26th Asian Youth Under-12 Girls Rapid and Classical. Odisha State Under-7 Open 2023, Sattwik Swain defeated Azad Khuduzade (AZE) 1.5-0.5 to secure a Bronze medal in Under-8 Open category. He remained undefeated throughout the tournament. In the group stage, he scored an unbeaten 6.5/7 in Group A. The top three prizes in each group were - Macbook Air 2022, iPhone 15 and iPad along with cup, medal and diploma each respectively. Saikat Nath scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 3rd Summer Cup Classical Below 1800 Rating Tournament 2024. The tournament was organized in memory of Late Shri Ramesh Chandra Sharma and Dr. Prashant Bharadwaj. Adalja Vanssh A, Vibhor Ranjan and Arnav Gupta also scored 8/9 each. They secured second to fourth place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹1500000. The top three prizes were ₹111000, ₹71000 and ₹41000 along with a trophy each respectively. There were three prizes worth ₹100000 and above. The tournament was organized by Chess in Lakecity from 15th to 17th June 2024 at Orbit Resort in Udaipur, Rajasthan. This was Saikat's first rating tournament triumph of the year. Alireza Firouzja (FRA) scored the sole victory of Round 6 at Grand Chess Tour Superbet Classic 2024. Wesley So (USA) opted for a sharp line in the Nimzo-Indian. Things backfired and the former World Fischer Random champion could not get out of the gate. Fabiano Caruana (USA) made a quick 19-move draw against Ian Nepomniachtchi to maintain his sole lead 4/6. D Gukesh opted for the Marshall Attack in Ruy Lopez against Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA). He managed to defend an unpleasant position for a very long time. R Praggnanandhaa could not break through Bogdan-Daniel Deac's (ROU) resistance. IM Himal Gusain scored a perfect 5/5 to win 4th Weekend Matti per gli scacchi Open 2024. The top seed of the tournament finished a full point ahead of the competition. Three players - CM Federico Giammona (ITA), CM Giuseppe Ottavio Messina (ITA) and Federico Noto (ITA) scored 4/5 to secure second, third and fourth place according to tie-breaks. Himal defeated both eventual runners-up. The top three prizes were €100, €75 and €60 along with a trophy each. The three-day five round Rating Open tournament was organized by A S D Matti Per Gli  Scacchi at Matti Per Gli Scacchi in Palermo, Italy from 7th to 9th June 2024. Singapore to host FIDE World Championship 2024 Match

The Singapore Chess Federation, supported by the Government of Singapore, has won the bid to host the FIDE World Championship Match 2024. The Match will feature the defending Champion Ding Liren from China and the Challenger D Gukesh from India and will take place between November 20 and December 15, 2024. Check out the press release by FIDE. The exact venue, match schedule, rules and regulation will be notified later. Total prize fund of the match is US$ 2.5 Million.
