Arjun Erigaisi drew with Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU) in the seventh round of 5th Stepan Avagyan Memorial 2024. The sole leader had a well contested draw against the Romania no.2. The remaining four games also ended in draws. Thus, Arjun maintains his full point lead 5/7. The defending champion - Samuel Sevian (USA), Deac and M Amin Tabatabaei (IRI) are at 4/7 each. Tabatabaei has the best chance to score a full point in this round. However, he needed to find a tough maneuver with his queen and bishop pair against his opponent's cramped queen and knights. Abhay and Priyanshu spearhead team Little Brothers to win CJKS Premier Division League 2024

Little Brothers won CJKS Premier Division Chess League 2024 scoring 15/18. They finished a full point ahead of the runner-up, Kwality Sports Club 14/18. Chattogram Mohammedan Sporting Club Bluss finished third scoring 12/18. The winner, Little Brothers suffered sole match loss against Brothers Union in Round 4. Abhay Bandewar and Priyanshu Barua were the top scorers for the winning team. They scored 7/9 and 6.5/9 each to gain 20.4 and 28.6 Elo rating points. Shivansh Tiwari scored an unbeaten 7/9 and increased his rating by 49 points. He played for the eventual second runner-up team - CMSCB. Saurabh Choubey was the highest gainer among Indians. 26th Asian Youth R6: Narayani Umesh Marathe scores a double hat-trick

Narayani Umesh Marathe scored a double hat-trick of wins in Under-8 Girls at 26th Asian Youth 2024. She defeated Nakshatra Gumudavelly to maintain her full point lead. Under-8 Open: Sarbartho Mani and Kavish Palaniappan K are trailing their sole leader by a half point at 5/6 each. Under-10 Open: Advik Amit Agarwal joined the five-way lead 5/6. Under-10 Girls: Bijesh Divi maintains her lead with Alisa Genrietta Yunker 5.5/6 each. Under-12 Open: Aadik Theophane Lenin and Siddhanth Poonja stay a half point behind the sole leader - CM Ramtin Kakavand (IRI) 5.5/6. Under-12 Girls: Pratitee Bordoloi maintains her pursuit 5/6. 4th Cairns Cup R3: Kosteniuk bounces back

GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (SUI) bounced back with a victory over GM Nana Dzagnidze (GEO) in the third round of 4th Cairns Cup 2024. Kosteniuk won in a similar fashion as her previous loss. The Georgia no.1 woman misplayed in the opening allowing her opponent to get a signficant advantage. Kosteniuk had no trouble converting it into a full point. This is her second win of the event. The youngest participant of the tournament - IM Alice Lee (USA) drew with GM Harika Dronavalli. GM Zhongyi Tan (CHN), Kosteniuk, Harika and GM Mariya Muzychuk (UKR) are at 2/3 each. 5th Stepan Avagyan Memorial R6: Arjun Erigaisi hunts Bluebaum's king, increases his sole lead

Arjun Erigaisi defeated Matthias Bluebaum (GER) to increase his sole lead by a full point at 5th Stepan Avagyan Memorial 2024. Arjun gobbled up two pawns in the middlegame and he managed to protect them. When the German declined the trade of queens, the World no.4 in live ratings, went for his opponent's king. Robert Hovhannisyan (ARM) scored the only other victory of the round. It was also his first win of the event and his opponent, Haik Martirosyan's (ARM) second loss. Haik misplayed in the sharp major piece endgame. It allowed his opponent to gain full control and liquidate into a favorable queen endgame. Narayani Umesh Marathe won her fifth game in-a-row to emerge sole leader in Under-8 Girls at 26th Asian Youth 2024. She is now a full point ahead of the rest and will face her compatriot Nakshatra Gumudavelly in the sixth round. Under-10 Girls: Bijesh Divi drew her game against Alisa Genrietta Yunker to stay in the lead 4.5/5 each. Under-12 Open: Aadik Theophane Lenin shared the point with CM Ramtin Kakavand (IRI). GM Harika Dronavalli got the upper hand out of the opening against GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (SUI) in the second round of 4th Cairns Cup 2024. She had no trouble converting her extra pawn advantage into a full point. GM Nana Dzagnidze (GEO) scored the only other win of the round. She capitalized on her opportunity when her opponent, IM Anna Zatonskih (USA) made a tactical error in the middlegame. GM Zhongyi Tan (CHN) and GM Irina Krush (USA) had a well-contested draw. Despite having an exchange up, Arjun did not have any practical chances to win the game. The remaining four games also ended in draws. Thus, there is no change in the leaderboard. Arjun is at 3.5/5. Four players - M Amin Tabatabaei (IRI), Samuel Sevian (USA), Haik and Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU) are at 3/5 each. They are followed by four players at 2/5. Narayani Umesh Marathe, Bijesh Divi, Aadik Theophane Lenin and CM Velavaa Ragavesh are the four Indians at 4/4. The first three are coleaders in Under-8 Girls, Under-10 Girls and Under-12 Open category. Velavaa has emerged sole leader in Under-16 Open. Ajay Santhosh Parvathreddy held the top seed of Under-18 Open, IM Aldiyar Ansat (KAZ) to a draw in the fourth round. Kazakhstan's first and only female to become a Grandmaster, Zhansaya Abdumalik made the ceremonial first move of the third round with WGM Gulmira Dauletova, Executive Director, Kazakhstan Chess Federation. FIDE receives 3 bids for the World Championship Match 2024 between Gukesh and Ding Liren

The World Chess Body, FIDE, has received three bids of US$8.5 million for the World Championship Match 2024 between Gukesh and Ding Liren. The bids are 2 from India (Chennai and Delhi) and one from Singapore. We speak to FIDE's CEO Emil Sutovsky about this development and he sheds more light on this. With Gukesh being the youngest ever World Championship contender, there is a lot of interest in the match. The entire chess world is on the edge of their seats to know where the match is going to.

4th Cairns Cup R1: Harika does a 126-move marathon draw against Nana Dzagnidze

GM Harika Dronavalli played a 126-move marathon draw against GM Nana Dzagnidze (GEO) in the first round of 4th Cairns Cup 2024. She had to sacrifice her bishop in the rook and opposite color bishop endgame to prevent the passed pawn from getting promoted. The India no.2 woman displayed fine technique to survive for 50 moves before the game ending in a draw against the Georgia no.1 woman. GM Mariya Muzychuk (UKR) made a beautiful double exchange sacrifice to beat the defending champion, IM Anna Zatonskih (USA). Arjun Erigaisi drew his fourth round game against the defending champion - Samuel Sevian (USA) at 5th Stepan Avagyan Memorial 2024. Haik Martirosyan won the All-Armenian clash against Manuel Petrosyan. The latter made an incorrect decision in the seemingly balanced rook and knight endgame. It allowed Haik to liquidate into a favorable rook and few pawns endgame. He had no trouble converting his extra pawn advantage. M Amin Tabatabaei (IRI) scored the only other victory of the round against Matthias Bluebaum (GER). Arjun's next opponent will be Haik who had the maximum decisive games of the event so far. Divya Deshmukh and Kazybek Nogerbek are the FIDE World Junior 2024 Girls and Open Champions

IM Divya Deshmukh defeated WGM Beloslava Krasteva (BUL) to clinch Gold at FIDE World Junior 2024 Girls convincingly. She scored an unbeaten 10/11 and finished a half point ahead of the others. She was the top seed and the favorite to win the tournament, the reigning Asian Continental Women's champion achieved it without any trouble. Second seeded, WIM Mariam Mkrtchyan (ARM) kept her pursuit till the very end. She scored 9.5/11 to secure the Silver. WIM Ayan Allahverdiyeva (AZE) scored 8.5/11 to win the Bronze. In the Open event, GM Kazybek Nogerbek (KAZ) scored a big win in the final round over the sole leader GM Mamikon Gharibyan (ARM) to earn the Gold 8.5/11. GM Emin Ohanyan (ARM) also scored the same. 26th Asian Youth R2: Swayham P Das upsets Harsh Suresh

In the first round, Under-18 Open top seed - IM Aldiyar Ansat (KAZ) suffered a shocking defeat against Khisigbat Ulziikhishig (MGL) at 26th Asian Youth Under-18 Open 2024. In the second round, Under-8 Open, Under- 10 Girls top seeds - Sarbartho Mani and WCM Alanna Berikkyzy (KAZ) suffered a loss each against Kavish Palaniappan K and Zhansaya Sholpanbek (KAZ) respectively. Swayham P Das scored the biggest upset of the round as he defeated IM Harsh Suresh in Under-18 Open. He will face another compatriot Ajay Santhosh Parvathreddy in the third round. This will be his third consecutive opponent from the same country out of the five taking part in his age group. Tomorrow is the sole double round of the tournament.
