Integral Coach Factory dominates All India Railway Team Championship for the third time in three consecutive years

Integral Coach Factory scored an unbeaten 11/12 to win 36th All India Inter Railway Team Chess Championship 2024. ICF defeated Southern Railway convincingly 0.5-3.5 in the final round to become a clear champion. Eastern Railway scored sole 10/12 to secure second place. Metro and South Eastern Railway scored 8/12 each. However, Metro edged past SER on tie-breaks to finish third. Top two teams remained undefeated. GM Visakh N R was the top scorer for his team ICF. He scored an unbeaten 5/6. India's latest GM P Shyam Nikhil and GM Laxman R R also remained undefeated. They made 4/6 and 2.5/3 each. GM Deepan Chakkravarthy scored a crucial 4/6. Vaclav Finek wins Czech Open Pardubice 2024, Ameya Audi second

IM Vaclav Finek (CZE) and IM Ameya Audi scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 each at Czech Open Pardubice A 2024. The teenager won the tournament on tie-breaks. Four players - GM Jiri Stocek (CZE), GM Evgeny Zanan (ISR), IM Stepan Hrbek (CZE) and IM Klaudia Kulon (POL) scored 7/9 each. They were placed third to sixth respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was 300000 CZK. The top three prizes were CZK 70000, 50000 and 40000 along with a trophy each. The nine-day nine round Rating Open A (>=2100) tournament was organized by AVE CHESS z.s. at IDEON congress centre, Jiraskova in Pardubice, Czech Republic from 19th to 27th July 2024. The chess world is set to witness a historic shift after the announcement on Thursday, 25th July: ‘Magnus Carlsen raises $12 Million for Freestyle Chess Grand Slam.’ This project promises to bring high-level, exclusive chess tournaments to the global stage. While the format was initially introduced in February 2024, certain developments will make it exciting for players, fans, media, organizers, sponsors, and everyone involved. Jan Buettner is the co-founder of this project along with Magnus and in a candid interview with ChessBase India, he shares his journey of starting Freestyle Chess to raising US$12 million!

Muthu Rakesh Babu victorious at Intellion Corporate Chess Tournament Finals 2024

Muthu Rakesh Babu (Cisco) scored an unbeaten 6.5/7 to win The Ultimate Chess Competition Finals 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Arunkumar Nagarajan (Qualcomm) scored 6/7 to finish second. Three players - N Madhavan (Citi), Mithun Raj A (Citi) and Naveen Prabhu S (Light and Wonder) scored 5.5/7 each. They secured third, fourth and fifth place respectively according to tie-breaks. Muthu drew with Madhavan in the final round to become the champion. The tournament was held at Ramanujan IT Park in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It was organized by the team of TATA Intellion and ChessBase India 19th and 20th July. Final was held on International Chess Day. Nithin Babu dominates 1st Bangalore Triple Crown Rapid Rating Open 2024

Nithin Babu scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Bangalore Triple Crown Rapid Rating Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Nine players scored 8/9 each. Arul Anandh S P K and FM J Ramakrishna secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. Nithin defeated the eventual runner-up, Arul in the penultimate round. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹250000. The top three prizes were ₹30000, ₹25000 and ₹20000 along with a trophy each. SASVAS won the Team event scoring 10/12. Midilesh triumphs at 24th Sant Marti Open 2024 Group B, Vihaan Dawda second

15-year-old Midilesh Ms scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 24th Sant Marti Open Group B (<1950) 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Four players - Vihaan Dawda, Javier Morais Carreras (ESP), Edgar Lopez De Anda (USA) and Aarush Dolas scored 7.5/9. Vihaan secured second place as he had the best tie-breaks among them. The total prize fund of the tournament was €7510. The top three prizes in Group B were €450, €300 and €200 along with a trophy each. WFM Vrushali Umesh Deodhar scored an impressive 6/9 to score her maiden WIM-norm in Group A. She finished seventh overall and was the highest female finisher of the event. Kumar Gaurav clinches 1st Tinsukia Rating Open 2024

Top seed Kumar Gaurav scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 1st Tinsukia Rating Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Rupam Mukherjee and Bijit Chetia scored 7.5/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. Kumar defeated the eventual second runner-up, Bijit in the fourth round. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹30000, ₹20000 and ₹10000 along with a trophy each. The tournament was organized by Tinsukia Chess Academy at Tinsukia College Auditorium in Tinsukia, Assam from 21st to 26th July 2024. Madhvendra Pratap Sharma dominates Khelo Chess India Blitz Rating Open 2024 with a 100% score

10-year-old Madhvendra Pratap Sharma scored a perfect 9/9 to win Khelo Chess India Blitz Rating Open 2024. He finished a staggering 1.5 points ahead of the field. Ishaan Singh Khanuja scored sole 7.5/9 to secure second place. Eight players scored 7/9. Out of them, Harshit Dawar finished third as he had the best tie-break score. This tournament was part of Guinness World Record attempt on International Chess Day, 20th July 2024. The top three prizes were ChessBase 17, Fritz 19 and Attack like a Super GM Fritztrainer along with a medal and FIDE 100 trophy. The one-day nine round Blitz Rating tournament was organized by us, ChessBase India at Sage International School in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Aakash G wins 21st Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit 2024, Manigandan second

The 21st Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament 2024 was an closely fought event. As many as five players finished with the same score 5.5/9. They are - CM Aakash G, Manigandan S S, IM Alexander Slizhevsky, GM Manik Mikulas (SVK) and FM Arjun Adireddy. 13-year-old Aakash won the tournament on tie-breaks. The remaining four were placed second to fifth respectively. The seven-day ten-player round-robin tournament was organized by Tamil Nadu State Chess Association at Hotel Abu Sarovar Portico in Chennai, Tamil Nadu from 21st to 27th July 2024. India wins six medals at Western Asian Junior Chess Championships 2024

India has won a total of six medals including two Gold, one Silver and three Bronze medals at Western Asian Junior Chess Championships 2024. WFM Shubhi Gupta, reigning National Sub-Junior Girls champion - Mrittika Mallick and WFM Rindhiya V scored 5.5/7 each in Rapid Girls. The reigning Andhra Pradesh State Senior Open champion - FM Md. Imran won Bronze in both Rapid and Blitz Open scoring 5/7 and 7/9 each respectively. Rakshith Srinivasan scored a perfect 9/9 to become the champion at Czech Open G2 Rapid 2024. He finished a whopping 1.5 points ahead of the rest. Vojtech Stary (CZE) scored 7.5/9 to secure second place. Lukas Stary (CZE) edged past three more players on tie-breaks to finish third with a score 7/9. The total prize fund of the tournament was 5000 CZK. The top three prizes were CZK 2000, 1500 and 1000. The two-day nine round Rapid Rating tournament was organized by AVE CHESS z.s. at IDEON congress centre, Jiraskova in Pardubice, Czech Republic on 17th and 18th July 2024. Thibault Dudognon wins 15th Vaujany International Festival 2024, Anwesh Upadhyaya third

FM Thibault Dudognon (FRA) and GM Jean-Marc Degraeve (FRA) scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 each at win 15th Vaujany International Chess Festival Main (>1800) 2024. Thibault won the tournament due to better tie-breaks. Jean-Marc was placed second. Dr. IM Anwesh Upadhyaya scored sole 7/9 to finish third. The total prize fund of Main tournament was €5400. The first prize was €1200. The nine-day nine round Rating tournament was organized by Jean-Pierre Lees at Espace Loisirs in Vaujany, France from 11th to 19th July 2024. Anwesh was the sole Indian to make a top ten finish.

IM Raahil Mullick's fantastic efforts in training Blind Chess Players

Raahil Mullick, currently 17 years old, became an International Master in Chess at the age of 12. A very strong player and talented youngster himself, Raahil has recently started a new venture - training blind chess players! He will be the head coach of the Indian National Blind Chess Junior Team in the upcoming World Championship for Blind Chess players. The remaining three were placed second to fourth respectively. Mihir and Aansh remained undefeated among the top four. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹1000000. The top three prizes were ₹20000 + trophy, ₹15000 and ₹10000 each respectively. Pawel Sowinski wins Slovakia Open Piestany 2024, Ilamparthi third

FM Pawel Sowinski (POL) and GM Tomas Laurusas (LTU) scored an unbeaten 7/9 each at Slovaki Open Piestany 2024 in Open A (>2100). Pawel won the tournament on tie-breaks and also scored a GM-norm. Tomas secured second place. Six players - IM Ilamparthi A R, GM Shyam Sundar M, GM Anton Demchenko (SLO), GM Gergely Aczel (HUN), IM Moksh Amit Doshi and IM Filip Haring (SVK) scored 6.5/9. They were placed third to eighth respectively. The total prize fund in Open A was €10350. The top three prizes were €2200, €1500 and €900 each. Ajay Santhosh Parvathareddy, FM Adarsh Tripathi and FM Senthil Maran K scored an IM-norm each. This was Senthil's final IM-norm and he also got 2411 published rating in August FIDE Rating list.
