After the shocking loss in the 4th round of TePe Sigeman & Co 2026, Magnus Carlsen bounced back and scored a win over Zhu Jiner to get into joint second place with Nodirbek Abdusattorov. Arjun Erigaisi scored a win over Jorden van Foreest, who was in the headlines after beating Magnus Carlsen in the 4th round. With this win, Arjun is now co-leading with Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus, who drew his game against Andy Woodward. The local star, Sweden No.1 Nils Grandelius, scored his first points after drawing with Nodirbek Abdusattorov. The Sardinia World Chess Festival 2026 is taking an intense turn now. After completion of 4 rounds, no player has a perfect 4/4 points. There are 14 players in a joint lead with 3.5/4 going into the 5th round. The double-round day was tiring as expected, and on the top boards, players agreed to quick draws, but from the 5th round, we are going to witness some amazing and fighting chess here in Sardinia. Top-seeded Ian Nepomniachtchi is still holding his ground and co-leading with 3.5/4. Two Indian players, Abhimanyu Puranik and Leon Luke Mendonca, are also in a joint lead. IM Rahul Sangma scored an unbeaten 7.5/8 points to win the Sarguja Cup All India Open Fide Rated Chess Tournament 2026. Both Rahul Sangma and Indrajeet Mahindrakar were co-leading after 7 rounds with a perfect 7 points and drew their last game; a better tiebreak score helped Rahul win the event, and Indrajeet secured 2nd place. Vinod Kumar Sharma of Chhattisgarh scored 7 points to secure 3rd place. The tournament was organised by Suseema Welfare Foundation from 10th to 13th April 2026 at the Government. It's a rare sight to see Magnus Carlsen losing in a classical game, but Jorden van Foreest has done the unthinkable. Jorden defeated Carlsen in the 4th round of TePe Sigeman & Co 2026 with white pieces in a thrilling game filled with ups and downs. The last time Magnus lost in a classical game was on 1st June 2025, when World Champion D Gukesh defeated him at Norway Chess in the famous 'table slam game.' In another important result, Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus defeated Nils Grandelius to gain the sole lead going into the 5th round. After completion of the 2nd round at the Sardinia World Chess Festival 2026, Murali Karthikeyan, Leon Luke Mendonca, Abhimanyu Puranik, Prraneeth Vuppala, and Muthaiah Al are on perfect 2/2 points, and co-leading with top-seeded Ian Nepomniachtchi. In the second round, Nepo won his game against Jaidambareesh N R of India. There were only two draws on the top 18 boards, where Edwin Van Haastert drew against the 5th-seeded Frederik Svane and Aaron Jacobson drew against Aditya Mittal. In the 3rd round of the TePe Sigeman & Co 2026, there were two decisive results. Arjun Erigaisi scored his first win of the tournament against Nils Grandelius, moving into a joint lead with 4 others. In other decisive games, Turkish Phenom Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus scored a win over Chinese Zhu Jiner. The top-rated clash between Magnus Carlsen and Nodirbek Abdusattorov ends in a draw. The Sardinia Chess Festival 2026 started yesterday, with Ian Nepomniachtchi being the top-seeded player. In the first round itself, there was a surprising result when the 2nd-seeded Parham Maghsoodloo drew with the 2270-rated FM Massimiliano Botta of Italy. Ian started the event with a win over Kavin Vijaykumar of India. In other Indian results, Murali Karthikeyan, Aditya Mittal, Leon Luke Mendonca, and Abhimanyu Puranik started the event with a win. In another decisive game, American Prodigy Andy Woodward defeated local star Nils Grandelius to score 1st win in the 1st game. One of the strongest Classical Chess Tournaments of 2026 is starting today. The 31st edition of TePe Sigeman & Co 2026 kicks off today, and as always, the playing field is a great mix of young talents and the strongest contenders. Former World Champion and current World No.1 Magnus Carlsen will be seen in action with Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Arjun Erigaisi, Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus, Zhu Jiner, Jorden van Foreest, Andy Woodward, and Nils Grandelius. All the players taking part in this year's tournament are in red-hot form, and it is going to be a fun-filled tournament to watch. The TePe Sigeman Chess Tournament has been held annually since 1993, except 3 years in between.
