Titas Club clear first at Great Wall Ceramic Premier Division League 2025

Titas Club scored 16/18 to win Great Wall Ceramic Premier Division Chess League 2025. The defending champion Bangladesh Police finished last, scoring only 1 point. Manha's Castle and Leonine Chess Club scored 14/18 each. They were placed second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. The winning team suffered sole loss against the eventual runner-up, Manha's Castle in the seventh round. FM Vedant Panesar was the sole Indian in the winning team. He contributed 7.5/9. IM Aaditya Dhingra and FM Sahib Singh scored 8/9 and 6/9 each respectively for the runner-up team. Aaditya remained undefeated. IM Aaryan Varshney and IM Kaustuv Kundu scored 8.5/9 and 7/9 each respectively for the second runner-up team. Max Euwe became the fifth World Chess Champion after beating Alexander Alekhine in the 1935 World Championship match. A maths teacher by profession, Euwe remained an amateur throughout his life, but was still the best chess player in the Netherlands, and one of the world's best players. Euwe holds the record for the most Dutch national championships, with twelve. After winning the World Championship, Euwe was also the world's best player for a while. He lost the title again in 1937 in the rematch against Alexander Alekhine. In addition to his career as a player, he was very successful as the author of numerous textbooks. Bharat Kumar Reddy Poluri dominates 1st Aspiring Minds Rapid Rating Open 2025

Bharat Kumar Reddy Poluri scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Aspiring Minds Rapid Rating Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Six players - Vignesh Advaith Vemula, CM Chidvilash Sai Surapaneni, FM Ajay Mushini, IM Ravi Teja S, Rohith N and Dhruva Thota scored 8/9 each. They secured second to seventh place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹50000, ₹30000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each. The two-day nine round Rapid  Rating Open tournament was organized by Aspiring Minds Chess Academy at Meridian Global School in Hyderabad, Telangana on 3rd and 4th May 2025. GM Nihal Sarin defeated GM Yair Parkhov (ISR) to join the lead at 25th Dubai Open 2025. The top seed, Nihal beautifully transferred his queen from kingside to queenside. His opponent made a desperate rook sacrifice which did not yield anything. IM S Rohith Krishna won against GM Iniyan Pa to move to the top 3.5/4. IM Ilamparthi A R's momentary blind spot cost him dearly against GM Bharath Subramaniyam H. Nihal, Bharath, Rohith, GM Mahammad Muradli (AZE) and GM Aleksey Grebnev are in the lead 3.5/4. IM Md. R Praggnanandhaa drew with Jonas Buhl Bjerre (DEN) in Round 2 of 6th Stepan Avagyan Memorial 2025 in Jermuk, Armenia. Praggnanandhaa had a great opportunity against Dane no.1. However, he could not make the most out of it. Xiangyu Xu (CHN) had quite a few opportunities to extend his lead by a full point but he missed them all against Dmitrij Kollars (GER). IM S Rohith Krishna played a hard fought draw against GM Nihal Sarin in Round 3 of 25th Dubai Open 2025. Neither player gave any chance to their opponent and a draw became the only result on the top board. IM Nitish Belurkar drew with GM Yair Parkhov (ISR). GM Shreyas Royal's (ENG) ambitious attack did not work against the reigning National Rapid champion, GM Iniyan Pa. IM Ilamparthi A R played inspired chess to beat GM Emre Can (TUR). The defending champion, GM Muradli Mahammad (AZE) and two-time Asian Junior champion, GM Aleksey Grebnev are the only two players with perfect score 3/3. Aravindh Chithambaram and R Praggnanandhaa made a peaceful start at 6th Stepan Avagyan Memorial 2025 in Jermuk, Armenia. They had a relatively calm draw. Xiangyu Xu (CHN) scored the sole win of the round against Robert Hovhannisyan (ARM). The Armenian had a few good opportunities to win. However, he blundered in the queen and rook endgame, could not capitalize on his chances. Norway Chess Women R4: Vaishali checkmates Anna Muzychuk after a mate-in-one blunder

GM R Vaishali made a quick draw against GM Anna Muzychuk (UKR) in Round 4 of 2nd Norway Chess Women 2025. Vaishali was lost for the better part of Armageddon. However, Anna started misplaying her advantage and eventually blundered a mate-in-one which Vaishali spotted and walked away with a win. GM Koneru Humpy drew the Classical battle against GM Wenjun Ju (CHN). In Armageddon, Humpy did not react well to the five-time Women's World Champion's attack on her kingside. She blundered and eventually succumbed. IM Sara Khadem (ESP) persevered a tough position to beat GM Tingjie Lei (CHN) who blundered at the end and lost her game. Today is the first of two rest days. Norway Chess 2025 R4: Gukesh conquers Caruana in Armageddon on his 19th birthday

The World Champion, D Gukesh defeated Fabiano Caruana (USA) in a must-win Armageddon in the fourth round at 13th Norway Chess 2025. Caruana got one chance in the endgame in the Classical battle. However, he missed it. In Armageddon, the World no.5 made a positional mistake in the middlegame. Gukesh had no trouble seizing his opportunity and scoring a victory on his 19th birthday. Magnus Carlsen (NOR) defeated Arjun Erigaisi in the Classical as the latter erred in the major piece endgame. Hikaru Nakamura (USA) drew the Classical game against Wei Yi (CHN). The Chinese GM drew Armageddon in a winning position as it was enough for him to win the match. Today is the first of two rest days. Praggnanandhaa and Aravindh Chithambaram set to battle at 6th Stepan Avagyan Memorial 2025

R Praggnanandhaa and Aravindh Chithambaram will make their debut at 6th Stepan Avagyan Memorial 2025 in Jermuk, Armenia. Praggnanandhaa and Aravindh are two of the highest rated players in the field. Last year Arjun won this event. Since he is not playing, a new champion is guaranteed to be crowned. The remaining eight participants are - Samuel Sevian (USA), Nodirbek Yakubboev (UZB), Benjamin Gledura (HUN), Jonas Buhl Bjerre (DEN), Robert Hovhannisyan (ARM), Dmitrij Kollars (GER), Xiangyu Xu (CHN) and Aram Hakobyan (ARM). IM Md. Imran held the reigning National Rapid 2025 champion, GM Iniyan Pa to a draw. FM Vedant Panesar and IM Nitish Belurkar scored two big wins over GM Aditya Mittal and GM Nikolozi Kacharava (GEO) respectively. Aditya dropped a pawn in a multi-piece endgame. GM Koneru Humpy bounced back in the third round of 2nd Norway Chess Women 2025. She completely decimated IM Sara Khadem (ESP) who played a below par game. This win helped Humpy to catch up with the sole leader GM Anna Muzychuk (UKR). Anna made a quick draw with GM Tingjie Lei (CHN). Then she recovered well from a tough start in Armageddon to draw the game which is a win as per Armageddon rules. Both Humpy and Anna are at 6/9 each. GM R Vaishali drew the Classical against the reigning five-time Women's World Champion, GM Wenjun Ju (CHN). However, she suffered a 19-move miniature loss against Wenjun. His opponent blundered in the following move. Wei Yi (CHN) handed the World no.1, Magnus Carlsen (NOR) his second consecutive Armageddon loss. Mohammed Fasal V U scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win KCA's God's Own Country's 1st Below 1650 Rating Tournament 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. M Appas scored sole 8/9 to secure second place. He also remained undefeated. Half a dozen players scored 7.5/9. Out of them, Prathmesh Dharmadhikari was placed third due to better tie-break scores. Fasal defeated his coleader Prathmesh to become the champion. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹1000000 in Category B. The top three prizes were ₹100000, ₹75000 and ₹50000. The three-day nine round Below 1650 tournament was organized by Kottayam Chess Academy from 1st to 3rd May 2025 at Aithousa Convention Centre in Kottayam, Kerala.
