Gukesh, Arjun, Praggnanandhaa and Vidit to face Carlsen and co. at Freestyle Grand Slam Tour Stage 2

Freestyle Grand Slam Tour Stage 2 starts today in Paris, France. This will be the first time the four of five 45th Olympiad Gold medal winning Indian team members - D Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi, R Praggnanandhaa and Vidit Gujrathi playing the same tournament. Since then, we all know that Gukesh became the 18th World Champion. Richard Rapport ad Nodirbek Abdusattorov have replaced Alireza Firouzja and Hans Niemann who withdrew from the tournament. There will be six rounds of Rapid games played today in the Round-Robin stage and the remaining five will take place tomorrow. The newly-wed Vidit will face Magnus Carlsen in the very first round. Kaustuv Kundu wins DD-DBCA Rating Open for the third consecutive edition

IM Kaustuv Kundu, Pradeep Kumar R A, FM Matta Vinay Kumar, Arpan Das, IM Subhayan Kundu and FM Aditya Varun Gampa scored 7.5/9 each at 6th DD-DBCA Rating Open 2025. The top seed of the tournament became the champion due to better tie-break scores. The remaining five were placed second to sixth respectively. Kaustuv won this event for the third consecutive edition and completed a hat-trick of winning DD-DBCA Rating tournaments. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹500000, an increase of 25% worth ₹100000 from the previous edition. The top three prizes were ₹75000 + trophy, ₹60000 and ₹45000 each respectively. The six-day nine round Rating Open tournament was organized by and at Dhanuka Dhunseri Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy in Kolkata, West Bengal from 26th to 31st March 2025. Ajjesh amazing at 1st Hunter's Queen Trophy Rapid Rating Open 2025

Ajjesh J R scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Hunter's Queen Trophy Rapid Rating Open 2025. The 16-year-old finished a half point ahead of the competition. Five players - IM Srihari L, Peter Anand A, Madhesh Kumar S, IM Harsh Suresh and IM Hari Madhavan N B scored 8/9 each. They were placed second to sixth according to tie-breaks. Ajjesh drew with the eventual runner-up and Puducherry's first IM - Srihari in the penultimate round. The total prize fund was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹25000 + trophy, ₹20000 and ₹15000 each. The one-day nine-round Swiss league Rapid Rating tournament was organized by Hunters Chess Academy at Manakula Vinayagar Institute of Technology in Puducherry on 30th March 2025. Six players - IM FT Ravi Teja S, IM Aronyak Ghosh, IM Goutham Krishna H, IM Ayush Sharma, IM Aaditya Dhingra and Sham R scored 8/9 each at DCA Rapid Rating Open 2025. Ravi became champion, Aronyak second and Goutham third according to tie-breaks. The remaining three were placed fourth to sixth. Top four remained undefeated. The total prize fund was ₹1500000. The top three prizes were ₹100000, ₹75000 and ₹50000 along with a trophy each. The two-day nine-round Swiss league Rapid Rating tournament was organized by Delhi Chess Association at Hyatt Centric Janakpuri in New Delhi on 30th and 31st March 2025. Pavel Mencik and Marek Krasa dominate Prague International Chess Festival 2025 L Bughouse Blitz Open

Pavel Mencik (CZE) and Marek Krasa (CZE) scored 26.5/28 to win Prague International Chess Festival 2025 L Bughouse Blitz Open. They finished a whopping five points ahead of the runner-up. The Czech team of Zednicek-Broz secured second place scoring 21.5/28. The second runner-up was the Polish team two kids - Smolinski-Korszanski. They scored 19.5/28. The top three prizes were CZK 1000, 600 and 400 each. This was the last event of this year's festival. The eighth edition of the festival will take place from 24th February to 6th March 2026. University of Madras clear first at All India Inter University Women 2025

University of Madras scored an unbeaten 9/10 to win All India Inter Zonal Inter University Women Chess Tournament 2025. The defending champion, Adamas University scored 8/10 to secure second place. Their only loss of the event was against the eventual champion, University of Madras in the penultimate round by 2.5-1.5. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University scored 7/10 to be placed third. The winning team had two WGMs - Savitha Shri B and Rakshitta Ravi. They scored 2.5/3 and 4.5/5 each. WFM Rindhiya V also scored 4.5/5.

Arpan Das wins 3rd Sakatam Rating Open 2025

Arpan Das, IM Somak Palit and IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni scored 8.5/10 each at 3rd Sakatam Rating Open 2025. Arpan won the tournament on tie-breaks, Somak and Vikramaditya were placed second and third respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹600000. The top three prizes were ₹70000, ₹50000 and ₹35000 along with a trophy each respectively. The five-day ten round Rating Open tournament was organized by HBM Society and Northeast Chess India at Bhogeswari Phukanani Indoor Stadium in Guwahati, Assam from 26th to 31st March 2025. This is Arpan's second rating tournament triumph of the year.

Turkish Chess Federation invites you to 11th Cesme Open 2025. The festival has a total of four tournaments - Category A (≥2000), Category B (1700-1999), Category C (1400-1699) and Category D (<1400). The total prize fund is Turkish Lira 900000 (≈ €22000). The top three prizes are ₺175000, 125000 and 75000 each. The festival will take place at Cesme Ayios Haralambos Cultural Centre & Sıdıka Kelami Ertan Sports Hall in Cesme, Turkiye. It will take place from 23rd to 29th June 2025. Priyanshu won the tournament on tie-breaks, Anirudhha and Arnav were placed second and third respectively. Priyanshu drew with the eventual runner-up, Anirudhha in the final round. The total prize fund was ₹250000. The top three prizes were ₹20000, ₹15000 and ₹10000 along with a trophy each. Mehekdwip Gope and Priyanshu Sekhar Swain scored 7.5/9 each at win Chess for Everyone Rating Open 2025. The 11-year-old became the champion due to better tie-break scores, Priyanshu had to settle for second position. The fourth round battle between them ended in a draw. Five players - Agrajit Paul, Pranjal Debnath, Dibya Jyoti Sarkar, WCM Aaradhya Das and Ayush Saha scored 7/9 each. They were placed third to seventh respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹33500. The top three prizes were ₹5100, ₹3000 and ₹2000 along with a trophy each. The five-day nine round Rating tournament was organized by All Tripura Chess Association at NSRCC in Agartala, Tripura from 26th to 30th March 2025. Al Ain Chess and Mind Games Club clinches UAE Cup Rapid Rating Team 2025

Al Ain ACMG1 scored an unbeaten 16/18 to win UAE Cup Teams Rapid Chess Championship for Institution and Communities 2025. The team comprised of GM Vladislav Artemiev and reigning World Rapid champion, GM Volodar Murzin. Artemiev scored a perfect 9/9 and Murzin 7/9. Shams Team scored sole 15/18 to secure second place. GM Viorel Iordachescu scored 7/9 and IM Mokhliss El Adnani contributed 6/9 towards their team. Three teams scored 14/18. Out of them, the third seeded, Sharjah, maintained their place. GM Salem Saleh 6/9 and GM Bassem Amin 7.5/9 were part of Sharjah. The total prize fund of the tournament was AED 40000. The top three prizes were AED 12000 + trophy, 8000 and 6000 each respectively. From top professional organizers who have everything planned and sorted to the very last detail to the passionate ones who are filled with the vitality of the game and can arrange anything and everything on the spot. While everyone has their unique methods and practices, it is a joy to work with each and everyone and enjoy the process and needless to say, learn a lot. I, Aditya Sur Roy from ChessBase India visited Tura in Meghalaya where I met some amazing people who play chess. In this article, I share my experience of my trip to the far northeastern part of the country.

Six new champions crowned at 12th National Amateur Chess Championships 2025

The twelfth edition of National Amateur Chess Championships 2025 witnessed a total participation of 450 players from various states, union territories and units across the nation. Six new champions were crowned in six different rating categories. They are: Vedant Ghadge (MAH) - Below 1700 Open, Aayusree Sarkar (WB) - Below 1700 Women, Archisman Patra (WB) - Below 2000 Open, Marium Fatima (BIH) - Below 2000 Women, Utkrisht Tuli (PUN) - Below 2300 Open and WFM Bristy Mukherjee (WB) in Below 2300 Women. My First Endgame Study Tourney: Awards

Our composing tourney, My First Endgame Study, has come to a close, and we are excited to announce the award winners. This inaugural event, a joint venture between the World Federation for Chess Composition (WFCC) and ChessBase India, drew an impressive response from the chess community, with 35 budding composers submitting a total of 60 entries. The tourney provided a platform for newcomers to showcase their skills and creativity in endgame study composition. We are delighted to present the standout entries that caught the attention of our judge and mentor, Gady Costeff. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all participants for their enthusiastic participation. Special thanks are due to Marjan Kovačević, president of the World Federation for Chess Composition (WFCC), without whose invaluable support and encouragement this event would not have been possible.
