Women World Ch. 2017 Final G3: The Greek gift from Persia

The third game of the Women World Chess Championship in Tehran saw one of the best games of the tournament so far! What else could make a championship as spectacular as this than to have the the best games of the event take place in the very last rounds! Harika comes back with bronze, but no one at the airport to receive her

All those who followed the Women's World Championship 2017, can understand that Harika's feat was truly something special. She was down in the dumps on many occasions but fought back and very nearly made it to the finals. The girl from Hyderabad is a three-time bronze medal winner. Yet, when she arrived at the airport she had absolutely no one to receive her for her feat - no media, no officials. It was just her parents. A sportsperson like Harika surely deserves better.

B. Adhiban played some amazing chess at the Tata Steel Masters 2017 in Wijk Aan Zee. After the tournament ended Adhiban said, "My good friend Vishnu Prasanna was my second for the tournament. Harika started the rapid tiebreaks with a scintillating 17 move win over Tan Zhongyi. As the second game moved into a drawish endgame it seemed as if the Indian girl had already qualified for the finals. However, it was not to be. Tan Zhongyi won that game and after many ups and downs the players had to fight it out in the Armageddon. Once again Harika was in the driver's seat, but victory was not meant to be hers. She lost the game and Tan Zhongyi booked her berth into the finals. A recount of all the action.

Chess celebrated an amazing sporting event in Tehran, Iran when Dronavalli Harika displayed tremendous grit and merit to outplay China's Tan Zhongyi.
