Study the studies day 3: Shutting the door!

Many people complain that solving studies doesn't help the practical player because the positions that are composed are not close to a real game situation. Well, in the third edition of our "Study the studies" section we have a position that is akin to a real game. It could easily be the opposite coloured bishop endgame that you would be playing in a tournament encounter. The challenge is to calculate accurately and finish off your opponent. Wanna try it out?!

10th KIIT International about to begin!

It is one of the most prestigious events in India. The 10th edition of KIIT International chess festival begins from the 26th of May 2017. 17 grandmasters and 21 International Masters will fight it out in field of 246 players from 12 countries for the first prize of Rs.2,00,000. ChessBase India's Sagar Shah is in Bhubaneshwar along with his wife Amruta Mokal. He sends us a report of all the happenings just before the tournament is about to begin.

The Zalakaros Open 2017 has witnessed a hilarious incident in the eighth round. World's youngest IM Praggnanandhaa R. was playing China's Li Bo, when the latter made an illegal move. Unfortunately, Pragg did not notice this and went on to lose. Can he appeal against the game?

Ravi Teja takes it all in Sangli!

Playing his first tournament in India after marriage IM Ravi Teja travelled to Sangli with his wife. Both of them took part in the 50th edition of the Babukaka Shirgaonkar tournament. Ravi claimed the top prize of Rs.1 lakh, while Anusha was the best woman player! Our 12-year-old reporter Avathanshu Bhat was in Sangli and has sent us a report loaded with chess content. In it you can find an interesting idea against the London played by Ravi Teja and some excellent annotations by the young upcoming talent of Mumbai Aryan Polakhare.

Zalakaros 01-05: Abhimanyu Puranik stars for India

The 36th Zalakaros Open is taking place from 18th May to 26th May in the Hotel Karos Spa in Zalakaros, a beautiful little spa town in the Balaton lake region of Hungary. Top seed Richard Rapport has already suffered a shock defeat at the hands of IM Abhimanyu Puranik. Meanwhile, Indian IM Praggnanandhaa R. is playing some sparkling chess. Report.

PM Narendra Modi congratulates Vaishali

Asian Continental Championship has concluded yesterday. India had a fruitful outing as GM Vidit Gujrathi and WIM Vaishali R clinched bronze medals in the classical championship. PM Narendra Modi congratulated Vaishali for her gold medal winning performance in the Blitz championship. A golden day for Indian chess!

Victorious Vaishali and Vidit clinch bronze at Asian Continental

Last round of an important event like Asian Continental 2017 is extremely nerve-wracking. A lot of things are at stake and it is important to keep things under control. Two V's of Indian chess Vaishali and Vidit did that perfectly to secure bronze medals in women and open section respectively. Indians win First Saturday May-2017!

The idea behind this successful series is simple: make it easier for young players to get round robin norms you need for the title.
