IM Nguyen Anh Khoi and WFM Serikbay Assel win Asian Junior 2019

16-year-old IM Nguyen Anh Khoi of Vietnam won Asian Junior 2019 in open category with an emphatic 8.0/9, finishing a full point ahead of the runner-up IM Raghunandan K S of India. Anh Khoi also won Gold in Rapid format. Among the girls, WFM Serikbay Assel, despite suffering two consecutive losses in round 5 and 6, bounced back strong and finished at 7.0/9 to clinch the Gold., edging out WIM Vantika Agrawal on tie-break as she also finished with the same score. Vantika also won Silver in the Rapid format. IM Novendra Priasmoro, FM Sagita Catur Adi and WFM Sharfina Juwita Ardelia are the Silver in open Rapid, Bronze in open Standard and Bronze in girls Blitz medal winners respectively. Magnus Carlsen wins the Croatia Grand Chess Tour and his eighth consecutive tournament!

The World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen has really been showing phenomenal dominance over the current chess scene with his back-to-back tournament wins. On Sunday he put another feather in his cap by winning the second leg of Grand Chess Tour 2019 in Zagreb, Croatia. This was a truly elite event with twelve of World's top Grandmasters competing but Magnus's domination over the field culminating into a sizzling final round victory was unmatched and almost unchallenged. Exactly how much ahead of the curve the Norwegian really is? The question has been speculated multiple times in the past week with none other than Kasparov comparing him to Fischer and himself at his peak. Abhijeet Gupta wins the Commonwealth title for a record fifth time!

Legends have a habit of raising their game when the situation demands it. That's the reason why they have maximum grand slams to their credit, or highest number of goals, or most runs scored! In chess, the mark of a strong player stems from how he plays in the last round, especially when he is in a must-win situation. This is what happened with Abhijeet Gupta, four time Commonwealth winner. Abhijeet was in a must-win situation and came out all guns blazing to beat his opponent Arjun Erigaisi and claim his 5th Commonwealth title. He deserves the title of Mr. Commonwealth. The women's section was won by IM Tania Sachdev, who also scored her 3rd title. Garden High wins 13th Chessmate Inter School Team Rapid Rating 2019

Garden High School beat the defending Champion DPS North Kolkata in round 4 and went on to win 13th Chessmate - The Inter School Rapid Rating Team Championship 2019 in a dramatic finish. Garden High drew with the debutante La Martiniere for Boys in the last round leaving the fate of their team to DPS North. If they had scored a minimum margin win over their last round opponent Don Bosco Park Circus, well things could have been different. Among the girls team, Lakshmipat Singhania Academy won the girls championship for the third consecutive year. The fight for 16 Commonwealth Golds!

The Commonwealth Championships are unique because along with the open event, you have 14 age category events simultaneously going on. When 7th of July draws to an end, we would have 16 different Commonwealth Champions from under-8 to under-20 and open section. In this report we have begun with our focus on the age category events where winners have already been decided in some sections, while in some the last round will see full fledged fights. In the open, Abhijeet Gupta has been joined by two Indian youngsters at the top, Aravindh Chithambaram and S.L. Narayanan. In this report you get some nice pictures, analysis, videos and much more. Magnus enters the last round just half a point ahead of Wesley So

It was only Shakhriyar Mamedyarov who got the better of Vishy Anand in round 9 of Croatia Grand Chess Tour 2019. All other games ended in draws in the same round but they were top-notch, fighting draws nevertheless. Round 10 was comparatively way too uneventful as all six encounters ended in dim draws - three of them, incidentally, finished with an opposite-coloured bishop endgame, two ended up with perfectly symmetrical pawn structures in rook endgame. In the top matchup between Wesley So and Magnus Carlsen, the former opted a tame line in Nimzo-Indian with the white pieces and drew in no more than 36 moves. The final round will be played on Sunday, with Carlsen versus Vachier-Lagrave and Aronian versus So being the highlights of the day.

He is 20 years old, rated 2616, and is India no.9. He finished his graduation and is now a graduate in English Literature. S.L. Narayanan from Kerala is in quite a spot right now. He needs the financial cushion of a sports quota job so that he can follow his passion, but the oil companies tell him there is no vacancy. He is currently fighting it out at the Commonwealth Championships where he is on 5.5/7 and just beat the talented Arjun Erigaisi in round 7. Narayanan is joined by five other players on 5.5/7 who are closely pursuing the sole leader of the tournament Abhijeet Gupta, who is on 6.0/7. IM Sagar Shah is in Delhi for the last three rounds of the Commonwealth Championships 2019 and reports from the venue.

The 32nd Edition of the Leon Knockout Tournament kicked off with a bang! In the first of the two matchups, the World's youngest 2600 was paired against the Sphinx of Lvov himself. Nihal Sarin gave a good account of himself in the 4 rapid games and did obtain numerous chances to take the lead, but Chucky's inexhaustible experience and subtle endgame play tilted the balance in his favour, and he won the matchup 2.5-1.5. The Magnus magic continues!

If Magnus's win over Nepomniachtchi yesterday was a display of his sheer on board confidence and creativity, then today's victory over Ding Liren is a proof of his preparation and practice. The World Champion registered his second consecutive win with the black pieces today and continues to lead the Croatia Grand Chess Tour 2019 after eight rounds of the event. Round 8 saw three decisive games in total, Wesley So defeated Hikaru Nakamura to stay at Magnus's heels with 5.5/8, while Anish Giri beat Shakhriyar Mamedyarov to catch up with Karjakin, Anand, and MVL on the leaderboard. Vishy Anand had an edge with the white pieces against Fabiano Caruana but the game somehow fizzled out into a draw.
