Talent Test with Ilamparthi - 12 positions for the 12-year-old

Talent test has been a way in which we, at ChessBase India, bring forth the shining youngsters who are extremely talented. The first talent test took place in 2017 when IM Sagar Shah travelled to R. Praggnanandhaa's house in Chennai and posed him with a set of questions which the youngest IM in the world had to answer. This ritual then continued with more talents like Nihal Sarin, Raunak Sadhwani, Sreeshwan Maralakshikari and others. Even experienced GMs like Adhiban and Surya Ganguly have dipped their feet in ChessBase India's talent test. This time we have 12 positions for the boy who just turned 12 years old and who we believe is sure to turn some heads in the world of chess in the years to come - Ilamparthi AR.

Anand and Humpy win Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Decade in Sportstar Aces Awards 2021

On 3rd April 2021, Sportstar premiered the Sportstar Aces Awards 2021 Day 3 on their youtube channel. Vishy Anand was nominated for Sportsman of the Decade Non-Olympic Sport along with Pankaj Advani of Billiards and Rajat Chauhan of Compound Archery. Koneru Humpy was nominated for Sportswoman of the Decade Non-Olympic Sport along with Harika Dronavalli and Jyothi Surekha of Compond Archery. Arjuna Awardees Dibyendu Barua and Tania Sachdev presented the award to Anand and Humpy respectively. Chandar Raju clinches 58th Kerala State Senior Open 2021

Chandar Raju wins 58th Kerala State Senior Open championship on his 22nd birthday, ten days after becoming Ernakulam District champion. He remained undefeated in both of his triumphs. He scored 5.5/6 in the district event and 7.0/8 in state. This is his second state title since 2013 and also second district title since 2016. Sooraj M R secured second position with 6.5/7, while third seeded Sharsha Backer was placed third 6.0/8 as his tie-breaks was better than four other players who finished with the same score. Indian teams clinch Gold and Bronze at Asian Nations Cup Online Under-14

India has a huge depth in talent and that is proved once again as India 'A' and India 'B' won Gold and Bronze medal respectively at Asian Nations Cup Online Under-14 in the Open section. India 'A' comprising of IM Bharath Subramaniyam H, CM Shahil Dey, IM Raahil Mullick, Souhardo Basak and CM Dev Shah scored 15.0/18 to win the Gold. India 'B' team scored 13.0/18 to secure the Bronze. The team consisted of CM Prraneeth Vuppala, Rohit S, Sreyas Payyappat, CM Tanmay Jain and Om Manish Kadam defeated India 'A' in the penultimate round. Photo: Various sources 

Last call to register for this Saturday's Capablanca Chess School 5th Anniversary Online Blitz Open

This Saturday Capablanca Chess School presents 5th Anniversary Celebration Online Blitz Open will take place on Playchess from 8 p.m. IST. They have organized 25 chess tournaments since they were founded in 2016. The tournament will take place on Saturday 3rd of April at 8 p.m. IST in ChessBase India webroom on Playchess. Entry is FREE for GMs, IMs, WGMs and WIMs. For everyone else Entry fee is ₹200 for Indians and €3 for foreigners. The tournament can be played via windows software and desktop or laptop browser only. 5 GMs, 16 IMs, a WGM and 2 WIMs have confirmed their participation so far. Registration is CLOSED. Samay Raina decides to quit stand-up comedy and will now pursue professional chess

Although chess has become an integral part of Samay Raina's life, he is still very prominently known as a stand-up comedian! Chess was just for the pandemic - that's what all of us thought! Once things open up, Samay would quit chess and get back to his life of stand-up comedy. However, we couldn't have been more wrong. After winning the COB All Stars, Samay Raina has made one of the biggest decisions of his life till date. He is quitting stand-up comedy and plans to become a full-time chess professional. His aim? To become the first GM from the state of Jammu and Kashmir. European Online Club Cup 2021 Finals R5-9: Only Vidit remains invincible

Novy Bor has seen much better days in various events. European Online Club Cup was nothing short of a disaster for them. Only Vidit remained undefeated throughout the event and in the Finals he scored 5.0/8. All his rest of the teammates had a difficult time finding harmony in the Finals. Wojtaszek scored 4.0/8, Harikrishna 2.5/4, Navara 4.0/9, Sasikiran 2.0/4 and Ragger 1.0/2. The team would definitely want to forget this event and move on to better glorious days ahead. Anxiety disorder has become very common in the present day. With high level of stress around us and the constant pressure to excel and outpace others, you are involved in a rat race which has no end. Vishal Chowhan, a regular follower of ChessBase India, also suffered from the same issues. Medication didn't ease his problems, meditation is something he didn't want to indulge in. 68th Tamil Nadu State Open: Pranav V takes sole lead 6.0/6

Top seed of 68th Tamil Nadu State Open 2021, Pranav made a double hat-trick of wins to take sole lead with 6.0/6 at the conclusion of the sixth round. This is the first official FIDE rated tournament taking place in India in more than a year since Covid-19 pandemic disrupted all normalcy of the entire world. Pranav already delivered an impressive performance in a Playchess event - Yugam 2021 International Online Blitz Open, a week before this tournament started. Novy Bor made a good start with a score of 5.0/8 in the Finals of European Online Club Cup 2021. They are now at tied at the third spot with Mednyi Vsadnik and Poland Hussars. Clichy Echecs 92 and SF Deizisau e.V. are in the lead with 6.0/8. Since the gap is of only one point, Novy Bor can easily finish at the top. The team scored two wins, one draw and one loss in the first rounds. The only loss was suffered against Hamburger Schachklub 1830 in Round 3. Bangladesh Police retain their Bangladesh Premier League championship with a 100% score

Bangladesh Police spoiled SAIF Sporting Club's second place finish as they beat him 2.5-1.5 in the final round of Mujib Borso SAIF Powertec Premier Division Chess League to retain their championship with 20.0/20. Shahin Chess Club beat Leonin Chess Club 2.5-1.5 to secure the second position with 14.0/20. SAIF Sporting Club also scored 14.0/20 and they were placed third according to tie-breaks. Best player on each board no. 1 - 5: IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman (2758, 6.0/6), GM Abhimanyu Puranik (2573, 8.0/10), IM Mitrabha Guha (2609, 8.5/10), GM Abdullah Al Rakib (2429, 6.0/8) and GM Ziaur Rahman (2593, 6.5/7) respectively. European Online Club Cup 2021 Playoffs: Vidit anchors Novy Bor to the Final stage

Novy Bor advanced to the Final stage of European Online Club Cup 2021 as they finished second in Group B of Playoff stage. The team made three draws and scored two wins to finish second in their group with 7.0/10. Vidit scored the highest for his team with an unbeaten 3.5/5. Navara and Wojtaszek scored 3.0/4 and 3.0/5 respectively. Sasikiran made 1.5/2, Harikrishna and Markus Ragger had a hard time with 0.5/2. Novy Bor will be one of the ten teams to play the Round-Robin Finals starting tonight from 6 p.m. IST.

Novy Bor topped Group B with a 100% score of 18.0/18 to advance to the next stage in European Online Club Cup 2021. All six players of the team remained undefeated. Harikrishna played only two games, Vidit made 3.5/4 and Sasikiran scored 2.5/3 on the second day of group stage. Gukesh, Nandhidhaa, Soham and Yashas' journey at the tournament came to an end as none of their respective teams managed to finish in top two of their respective groups to advance to the next stage. Play-offs start tonight from 6 p.m. IST onwards.

Bangladesh Premier League R10: Bangladesh Police wins with a round to spare

Bangladesh Police successfully retains their title with a round to spare in Mujib Borso SAIF Powertec Premier Division Chess League. Janata Bank Officer Welfare Society lost to the eventual champions by 0.5-3.5. Sanket Chakravarty avoided a whitewash for his team by making a draw with Bangladesh no.1 GM Abdullah Al Rakib. Among other upsets, IM Minhaz held GM Kovalev, Kaustuv Kundu held GM Narayanan and IM Aronyak held GM Neelotpal to a draw. Final round commences today from 2:30 p.m. IST. European Online Club Cup 2021 R1-4: Vidit and Sasikiran start with a hat-trick

Novy Bor made their presence felt on the opening day of European Online Club Cup 2021. They won all four games and took a sole lead in Group B with 8.0/8. Both Vidit and Sasikiran made a 100% score with 3.0/3 to anchor the team for a good start. Gukesh D scored 3.0/4 for his team Gijon 64 in Group C. Nandhidhaa P V made 2.0/4 for Tremblay Girls in Group D. Soham Das also 2.0/4 for Club Ajedrez 64 Villalba-Miscasa A in Group E.
