Goldmoney Asian Rapid Day 1: Arjun Erigaisi surprises Dubov

The first day of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Goldmoney Asian Rapid had plenty of exciting games. Four Indians are taking part in this event, out of them Arjun Erigaisi made the most of his opportunity as he beat Dubov, drew with Duda, Adhiban and Ding Liren. Vidit got tricked by Giri in a completely winning endgame. He drew with Duda and Artemiev, beat Adhiban to finish the day with 2.5/5. Gukesh held Ding Liren to a draw. Both him and Adhiban are at 1.0/5. Five players - Carlsen, Artemiev, Dubov, Ding Liren and Aronian share the lead 3.5/5 at the end of Day 1. Round 6 starts today at 4:30 p.m. IST.

FIDE WSCC QF: Harika beats A Muzychuk, advances to the Semi-Final

Harika continued her phenomenal run in the FIDE chess.com Women's Speed Chess Championship to beat former Women's World Rapid and two-time Women's World Blitz champion, Anna Muzychuk. She started the final Bullet 1+1 segment with a score of 8.5-4.5, won the first three bullet games and increased her lead to 11.5-4.5 which became insurmountable for her opponent. Harika won the match 13.5-8.5, and she will face reigning Women's World Blitz champion Kateryna Lagno in the Semi-Finals. Lagno beat Nana Dzagnidze 14.0-8.0 in the Quarter-Finals. Silver Lake Open R4: Raunak's beautiful bishop sacrifice

Raunak Sadhwani made a beautiful bishop sacrifice against IM Zhandos Agmanov to score a victory in Round 4 of Silver Lake Open 2021. Nihal Sarin capitalized on his opponent GM Ulvi Sadikhov's blunder in the endgame to join the lead with Raunak 4.0/4. Based on their present form, it was inevitable that Nihal and Raunak will face each other in the tournament. Their fourth round battle could play a crucial role in deciding the winner of the tournament eventually. GM Abhimanyu Puranik is steadily moving forward 3.5/4. Vidit, Adhiban, Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi will feature in Goldmoney Asian Rapid

The last major event before the FIDE World Cup, Goldmoney Asian Rapid starts on Saturday 26th June. It will feature four Indian players - Vidit Gujrathi, Baskaran Adhiban, D Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi. Former women's world champion Hou Yifan will be the first woman to take part in a Meltwater Champions Chess Tour event. The tournament will witness only four players from the previous event and the remaining twelve players earned their spot via Qualifiers, Wildcards and public vote. It will undoubtedly be an exciting event. Catch Round 1 action starting tomorrow from 4:30 p.m. IST. Silver Lake Open R2-3: Nihal and Raunak score a hat-trick

Nihal Sarin made a quick work of his opponent CM A Topalov in just 19 moves in the second round before battling against compatriot IM Raahil Mullick in Round 3 of Silver Lake Open 2021. Raahil played the endgame incorrectly against the Asian Continental Blitz 2019 champion and lost the game. Raunak Sadhwani won both of his rounds tactically after his opponents blundered a piece before resigning their respective games. Both Nihal and Raunak are now among the leaders 3.0/3 each respectively. IM Harshit Raja and GM Abhimanyu Puranik are also undefeated as they scored 2.5/3. Round 4 starts today at 8:30 p.m. IST. Covid-19 pandemic might have put brakes on that plan for a little over a year but as the world is slowly recovering back to normalcy, Indian players have started travelling to play Open events in Serbia. Wesley So wins Paris Rapid and Blitz Grand Chess Tour

Wesley So who has been consistent throughout the Paris Rapid and Blitz Grand Chess Tour won the event with a round to spare 24.5/36. He finished three points ahead of the competition Nepomniachtchi 21.5/36. He had kept So on his toes at all times to remain in the championship hunt. Despite winning the tournament before the final round, So went on to beat Nepomniachtchi in the final round to assert his dominance. The world championship challenger has shown that he is gearing up well for the world championship match later this year. Vachier-Lagrave and Firouzja shared third place 18.0/36. Paris Rapid and Blitz Day 4: So maintains his sole lead, Firouzja impresses

Wesley So suffered his first loss of the Paris Rapid and Blitz Grand Chess Tour against Aronian in Round 5. That was the only loss he conceded. He still maintains his sole lead 17.5/27, a half ahead of Nepomniachtchi 17.0/27 who was also defeated only once in the entire day. Firouzja scored a phenomenal 6.5/9 including victories over Kramnik and Nepomniachtchi. The former world champion Kramnik had a tough day as he score only 2.5/9, the lone victory coming against compatriot Svidler who finished the day with a hat-trick at the sole third place 14.0/27. Paris Rapid and Blitz Day 3: So takes sole lead 12.0/18

Reigning Fischer Random world champion Wesley So remained unbeaten in the Rapid part of Paris Rapid and Blitz Grand Chess Tour 2021. He scored 12.0/18 and finished a full point ahead of the competition at the top of the table. Nepomniachtchi showed why he is a serious threat to the world championship because as he displayed his preparation, calculation and technique in the same game to finish second 11.0/18 at the conclusion of the Rapid event. Bacrot made the most of his opportunity and made sure he finishes strong at sole third place 10.0/18. Kramnik will replace him for the Blitz part as the scoring system goes back to regular norms.
