Hou Yifan Challenge Day 1: Praggnanandhaa makes a blazing start 5.0/5

Praggnanandhaa emerged as the early sole leader 5.0/5 at the conclusion of the first day of Julius Baer Challengers Chess Tour Hou Yifan Challenge. He defeated Balaji, Vaishali, Jiner, Sokolovsky and Tingjie. We got an answer of what happens in a tournament when the strongest Indian young siblings face each other. Kramnik Challenge winner Vincent Keymer is a full point behind at 4.0/5, followed by Christopher Yoo and Leon Mendonca at 3.5/5 each respectively. Breaking News: Raja Rithvik R becomes the 70th Grandmaster of India

IM Raja Rithvik R started his Europe tour this summer with one GM-norm in his bag. He played three round-robin tournaments in Serbia non-stop for 21 days, performed well, yet the required performance rating was falling short for a GM-norm. After a difficult run at RTU Open, Rithvik had a breakout performance at Skalica Open 2021 where he scored his second GM-norm by winning against Gunina in the last round. With momentum on his side, he won the next event First Saturday GM September to score his third GM-norm and in the following three days he managed to cross the 2500 rating barrier to become India's 70th Grandmaster. A quick look at the 17-year-old boy's journey towards the coveted Grandmaster title.

Aditya Mittal and Vaishali make their tour debuts in Hou Yifan Challenge

The fourth and last leg of Julius Baer Challengers Chess Tour - Hou Yifan Challenge starts today with a line-up of 17 players. Praggnanandhaa returns to the tour where he will be joined by Leon and tour debutants IM Aditya Mittal, IM Vaishali R, IM Pawel Teclaf and WIM Oliwia Kiolbasa. Total prize fund for the Hou Yifan Challenge is US$15,000. The Finals will take place next month between 14th and 17th October. Details of the Finals will be revealed later. Gukesh clinches Norway Open 2021 Masters, Iniyan finishes second

GM D Gukesh won his second consecutive tournament of this month, Norway Chess Open 2021 Masters section. He scored 8.5/10, remained undefeated, performed at 2743 and gained 17.5 Elo rating points, taking his live rating to 2621. He won 60000 NOK (approx. ₹509000). His compatriot, GM Iniyan P scored 7.5/10 to finish at second position. He performed at 2550, increased his rating by 6.7 points and won 40000 NOK (approx. ₹339000). Gukesh's next event is European Club Cup where Carlsen, Grischuk, Harikrishna, Sasikiran and others are going to play. Magnificent Carlsen does a hat-trick of Norway Chess triumphs

Magnus Carlsen has won Norway Chess 2021 by defeating his challenger for the world championship, Ian Nepomniachtchi in the final round of the event. Carlsen made a hat-trick of Norway Chess triumphs and won this event fourth time since his first triumph in 2016. Firouzja for the second year in-a-row finished clear second. He also managed to climb to world no.9 in the live ratings list by winning against Richard Rapport, the other entrant to the world top 10. Firouzja won fourth consecutive Classical game and played only three Armageddon which means he also played the least number of games in the tournament and maximum decisive games. Dubai Chess & Culture Club invites 2600+ Male and 2450+ Female in a 24-player Rapid and Blitz OTB

Dubai Chess & Culture Club invites you to Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Cup at Expo 2020 - Dubai Exhibition Centre from 5th - 10th December 2021. The tournament is open to male players rated 2600+ and female rated 2450. The tournament will have only 24 players. Total prize fund of the tournament is US$ 30000, first prize in Rapid is $6000 and the first prize in Blitz is $2000. The Rapid event will take place between 6th and 9th December with three rounds per day. The entire Blitz event of eleven rounds will be played on 10th December. Players not meeting the rating criteria will be auto rejected. Registration is only accepted through the provided link. Last date of application is 30th September 2021. Norway Chess R9: Carlsen scores four in-a-row, takes sole lead

Magnus Carlsen registered his fourth consecutive victory as he defeated Karjakin in the penultimate ninth round of Norway Chess 2021. According to the world champion, this was the toughest win out of them. At one point his position was really bad, and he wanted to provoke a break which is exactly what the former world championship challenger did, allowing his opponent to get back in the game. Firouzja beat Tari for the second time in this tournament, and this win brought him to World no.10 in the live ratings list. Magnus Carlsen prevented Richard Rapport from doing a hat-trick by doing one of his own as he beat the Hungary no.1 in their Classical encounter in the eighth round of Norway Chess 2021. Rapport who is having the tournament of his life had to make sure that he does not lose the Classical game which he almost managed to do by playing solid. However, a blunder in the endgame cost him dearly. Rapport is still in the sole lead 15.5/24, Carlsen is breathing down his neck 15.0/24. Tari scored an impressive first win of the event and his career against Nepomniachtchi. Firouzja beat Karjakin with his own typical attacking display to move to 12.0/24. Norway Chess R7: Rapport overcomes Karjakin, moves to World no.6

Exactly a week after entering the World top 10 in the live ratings list, Richard Rapport has moved up to World no.6 now. He roared his way to the top by defeating Karjakin in their Classical encounter in the seventh round of Norway Chess 2021. The tournament boasts the field of a world champion, his challenger to the world championship, a former world championship challenger and world's best junior. Rapport has showed his true strength, creative play can still topple the best the world has to offer and climb the ranks at the same time. FIDE Online Olympiad 2021 SF: USA eliminates India

India made a brilliant start at the Semifinals by winning the first duel 5-1 against the USA in the FIDE Online Olympiad 2021. No one could have fathomed that they would not be able to advance after such a great start, but that is sport. USA made a commendable comeback by winning the second duel 4-2, forcing tie-breaks which they won 1.5-4.5 with a huge margin. Anish Giri dominates Tolstoy Cup, performs at over 3000

Anish Giri started Tolstoy Cup scoring five consecutive victories on the first day against Gelfand, Alekseenko, Matlakov, Vitiugov and Abdusattorov. He finished day 1 at 5.0/5, with a massive 2.5 points lead over the competition. The Dutch no.1 finished the event with a score of 8.0/9 and 2.5 points ahead of others, maintaining the difference till the very end. He performed at 3003, gained 55.2 Elo rating points, moving from world no.35 to world no.8 in the live rapid ratings list. This was definitely one of the best performance of Giri's career so far, which he even tweeted after the event in his own humorous way by quoting a tweet by his compatriot and protégé Max Warmerdam. Norway Chess R6: Karjakin gets his revenge against Nepomniachtchi

Sergey Karjakin defeated the World Championship Challenger - Ian Nepomniachtchi in Armageddon in the sixth round of Norway Chess 2021. One could not ask for a better way to start a week than to beat the world champion on Sunday and then beat his challenger on Monday. Rapport and Carlsen won their Classical games against Tari and Firouzja respectively. The Hungarian extended his sole lead by three points from his nearest pursuant, Nepomniachtchi 9.5/18, closely followed by Carlsen 9.0/18 and Karjakin 8.5/18.
