CoinDCX Chess Super League R4: The Kingslayers advance to the Knockout stage on a dramatic day

The Kingslayers have made their way to the knockout stage as they registered their third consecutive victory, defeating Ruthless Rooks 2.5-3.5 in the fourth round of CoinDCX Chess Super League. They started at the bottom by losing the first round, and now they are at the top of the table 6.0/8. Krazy Knights handed Brutal Bishops their first defeat of the event 4-2. Quintessential Queens suffered their third loss of the event, this time against Pivotal Pawns 2-4. Pivotal Pawns, Brutal Bishops, Ruthless Rooks and Krazy Knights fight for the remaining three spots as The Kingslayers cannot be displaced from the top four position even if we consider the worst mathematical outcome in the fifth round. 3rd Yerevan Open R1: Poormosavi holds top seed Narayanan to an exciting draw

15-year-old Iranian youth FM Seyed Kian Poormosavi (IRI) had an exciting game against GM Narayanan S L. It could have gone either player's way, yet the game, much to each player's chagrin, ended in a draw. Gukesh, Arjun and Abhimanyu scored a win each. CM Prraneeth Vuppala had Gukesh on the ropes, but he loosened his grip and let the India's youngest GM in history escape with a win. Among other upsets, untitled Sargis R Mkrtchyan (ARM) held GM Sandipan Chanda and Sambit Panda held IM P Shyam Nikhil to a draw each respectively. Vaishali will face Gukesh at the top board in Round 2 which will be an interesting rematch from their final round encounter at ChessMood Open. Round 2 starts today at 3:30 p.m. IST. Iniyan clinches La Nucia Open

GM P Iniyan scored an unbeaten 7.0/8 to win La Nucia International Open 2021. He had to miss the eighth round game due to his commitments towards CoinDCX Chess Super League, still he managed to win the tournament in just eight games. He won a trophy and €2500 (approx.₹218,400) as a prize. GMs Rodrigo Vasquez Schroeder (CHI) and Andrey Sumets (UKR) also finished with the same score 7.0/9, however they were placed second and third according to the tie-breaks. This is Iniyan's third over-the-board triumph of the year since he won a double at Noisiel Open, fourth overall including online events. Check out Iniyan's favorite game from the tournament with his annotations.

Challengers Chess Tour Finals featuring Leon and Praggnanandhaa starts today

GMs Leon Luke Mendonca and R Praggnanandhaa will start their campaign at Julius Baer Challengers Chess Tour Finals today. A total of US$ 40,000 prize fund with the first prize being US$ 12,500 and a regular spot at the next year's Meltwater Champions Chess Tour is up for grabs. Leon will face GM Vincent Keymer (GER) and Praggnanandhaa wil go against IM Volodar Murzin (RUS) in the Quarterfinals. GM Lei Tingjie (CHN) is the sole female player in the Finals. The knockout event will have a best of four 15+10 rapid games. There will be two 5+3 blitz games in tie-breaks and Armageddon if required. CoinDCX Chess Super League R3: Vidit beats Ding Liren, Brutal Bishops still undefeated

Brutal Bishops made their second consecutive draw to remain unbeaten at the conclusion of the third round of CoinDCX Chess Super League. Vidit Gujrathi scored a big win over Ding Liren, Alexandra Kosteniuk defeated Zhansaya Abdumalik to make sure Brutal Bishops remain undefeated so far. Ruthless Rooks defeated Quintessential Queens 3.5-2.5 which is the only team still in search for their first match win. The Kingslayers are going strength to strength as they beat Krazy Knights 4-2. Aleksey Goganov clinches ChessMood Open, Narayanan finishes second

Alexey Goganov (RUS) drew with Narayanan S L in the final round to win the ChessMood Open. Narayanan had to settle for second place. This is the third event of the year when Narayanan performed at over 2700. He gained 10 Elo rating points in this event which took his live rating to 2657. Goganov won 2,500,000 Armenian Drams (approx. ₹3.95 lacs), Narayanan received 1,750,000 AMD (approx. ₹2.76 lacs). Praggnanandhaa, Abhimanyu Puranik and Karthik Venkataraman scored 6.5/9 each. Anish Giri delivered an instant classic against Abhijeet Gupta as the Dutch no.1 played his immortal game which will be talked for years to come in the second round of CoinDCX Chess Super League. Giri and Arpita scored important victories to ensure The Kingslayers score their first win of the event against Pivotal Pawns. Brutal Bishops drew with Quintessential Queens to emerge as the early sole leader. Ruthless Rooks bounced back from a first round loss, as they beat Krazy Knights 2-4. Alexey Goganov (RUS) beat Samvel Ter-Sahakyan (ARM) in the penultimate round to take sole lead 7.0/8 for the first time, heading into the final round of ChessMood Open. Top seed Narayanan S L 6.5/8 beat fellow countryman, Arjun Erigaisi to keep his championship hopes. Goganov and Narayanan will face each other in the final round. A draw is enough for Goganov to win the tournament, while Narayanan must defeat him to become champion. Both of them will have tie-breaks in their favor if they can score the desired result. Krazy Knights, Pivotal Pawns and Brutal Bishops are the three teams who started their campaign with a victory against Quintessential Queens, Ruthless Rooks and The Kingslayers respectively in the first round of CoinDCX Chess Super League. Brutal Bishops lived up to their team name as they defeated The Kingslayers brutally 4.5-1.5 and did not allow a single game victory to the team whose name is inspired by the famous tale from the series, A Song of Ice and Fire. Alexey Goganov (RUS) beat Aram Hakobyan (ARM) to join the lead with Ter-Sahakyan. Five players are trailing by a half point. They are - Narayanan, Arjun, Pantsulaia, Abhimanyu and Tigran L Petrosian. GM P Iniyan beat the previous round leader GM Evgeny Postny (ISR) in the fifth round of La Nucia International Open to take the sole lead 4.5/5. Iniyan scored a very nice win with a picturesque finish against Postny who had a huge momentum as he won four consecutive games. Iniyan will face GM Andrey Sumets (UKR) in the sixth round. A total of 87 players in the Open section, including 10GMs, 9 IMs, a WGM and a WIM are taking part from 14 countries across the world. GM Samvel Ter-Sahakyan defeated compatriot IM David Shahinyan in the sixth round to regain his sole lead 5.5/6 at ChessMood Open. Four players are trailing by a half point. They are - Narayanan S L, Levan Pantsulaia (GEO), Abhimanyu Puranik and Alexey Goganov (RUS). All three of them won their respective games in the sixth round. IM Bharath Subramaniyam H had a 116-move long marathon draw against GM Arman Mikaelyan (ARM). Arjun, Gukesh, Sandipan and Karthik won their respective games. Tamil Nadu State Government felicitates players with 1 crore 98 lacs cash award

The tournament leaders will face each other in the sixth round. Ten players are at a half point behind the leader.
