13th Chennai GM Open R4-6: Nitin emerges sole leader scoring a double hat-trick

IM Nitin S is in a fantastic form. He defeated GM Vahe Baghdasaryan (ARM) in the sixth round to become the sole leader 6/6 at 13th Chennai GM Open 2022. In the seventh round, he will face Vignesh B in an interesting battle between two in-form players. He is also having a great event 5.5/6. The 17-year-old drew with GM Alexei Fedorov, defeated GM Nguyen Van Huy (VIE), GM Laxman R R and IM Srijit Paul in consecutive games. Boris Savchenko is the only other player at 5.5/6. Mitrabha Guha wins Olympiad Torch Run Open Rapid Chess Tournament 2022

GM Mitrabha Guha along with five more players scored an unbeaten 7/7. Mitrabha won the Olympiad Torch Run Open Rapid Chess Tournament 2022 due to better tie-breaks. IM Dinesh Kumar Sharma and reigning Asian Junior Open Gold medalist, IM Raahul V S were adjudged second and third respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹1000000. Top three prizes were ₹100000, ₹60000 and ₹40000 cash each. About 1500 players took part in this historic event. First-ever Torch Relay for the 44th Chess Olympiad took place on the very same day. Dibyendu Barua carries the Chess Olympiad Torch from New Delhi to Leh

The second person to become a Grandmaster in Indian chess is Dibyendu Barua. He had to fight various battles from his early days. From legitimizing Chess as a sport which was plagued as a superstition of a board game to winning Individual Gold medal at Novi Sad Olympiad in 1990. He has represented India at the Olympiad for seven consecutive time. Competed with Anand side-by-side in team and also the next generation of Harikrishna, Sasikiran and others. Ian Nepomniachtchi is playing Candidates 2022 like a man on a mission. His objective is clear, become the Challenger for the World Championship again. He scored an emphatic victory over World no.3, Alireza Firouzja. The teenager did not respond well to his opponent's rapid attack on his kingside. He had to pay a heavy price for it. Caruana drew his third consecutive game to remain just a half point behind the leader at 2.5/4. Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Richard Rapport and Hikaru Nakamura are at 2/4 each. This was a very important victory for Harikrishna, as he jumped back to the India no. 2 spot. Vishy Anand - The True Torch Bearer of Indian Chess

When a chess enthusiast or a non-chess enthusiast talks about Indian chess, the first name at the tip of their tongue is Vishy Anand. It has been the case for decades. The legend cemented his legacy by making strong moves over the board and having an affable personality off the 64 squares. The first ever torch relay for Chess Olympiad took place at Indira Gandhi International Stadium, New Delhi on Sunday 19th June. Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi handed over the Chess Olympiad Torch to Vishy Anand. While the ceremony was an inaugural event, the entire chess universe knows that the maestro Vishy Anand has been carrying the torch for Indian chess for a long time and the chess universe certainly wants him to continue doing so. 13th Chennai GM Open R1-3: Daksh Goyal destroys Duc Hoa

13-year-old Daksh Goyal stunned GM Nguyen Duc Hoa (VIE) in the third round of 13th Chennai GM International Open 2022. The Vietnamese GM's adventurous expedition of his king turned out to be perilous. The teenager precisely punished his opponent for the incorrect displacement of his king. Local players Vignesh B and Prasannaa S held GM Alexei Fedorov and GM Deepan Chakkravarthy to a draw each respectively. Candidates 2022 R3: Nakamura douses fiery Firouzja

Alireza Firouzja played only one tournament this year before the Candidates. It was clear that he was preparing for his golden opportunity. He got to show his full scale preparation against Nakamura in the third round. He blitzed out the first 25 moves and gained almost 80+ minutes advantage on the clock. The American is not the one who gets rattled easily. Being a sharp tactician and good with low time on the clock, he managed to real danger his opponent posed. Magnus Carlsen may not think Hikaru Nakamura has a good chance of winning the tournament. However, the Speed King does not believe in a crawling comeback. He struck back immediately in the second game against Radjabov. The American may not have played a lot of over-the-board tournament games recently, however he has played a lot of online events which certainly helped him in grinding the endgame. Harikrishna clinches Prague Chess Masters 2022 convincingly

Pentala Harikrishna defeated Spain no.2 David Anton Guijarro emphatically in the final round to win Prague Chess Masters 2022. Harikrishna accepted Anton's knight sacrifice in the middlegame and once again for the second time in this event, he showed his endgame prowess. He scored the sole win of the round and Liem could not manage to win the game. Thus, he finished a half point behind to finish second. Local talent, Nguyen Thai Dai Van scored 5/9 to secure third place. Vidit drew his final round game to be placed seventh 4/9. Candidates 2022 R1: Caruana and Nepomniachtchi start with a win

Fabiano Caruana and Ian Nepomniachtchi are the two victors in the first round of FIDE Candidates 2022. Hikaru Nakamura imploded against his compatriot Caruana. The former abandoned his king safety and stayed true to his style. He had to pay a heavy price for it. Nepomniachtchi won against the super-solid Ding Liren comfortably when his opponent decided against taking a central pawn, which eventually played a key role in his defeat. Pentala Harikrishna scored an important victory in the penultimate round against the UAE no.1 Salem Saleh. This win put him in the championship contention with Liem Quang Le. Both of them are now at 5.5/8. It all comes down to the final round and how each of them fare. Harikrishna will face Spain no.2 David Anton Guijarro and Liem will go against Spain no.1 Francisco Vallejo Pons. Harikrishna also moved to India no.2 and World no.27 once again in the live ratings. The highly anticipated FIDE Candidates 2022 starts today

The FIDE Candidates 2022 tournament is the ultimate qualifier for the FIDE World Championship. The winner of the tournament becomes the Challenger for the world championship and earns the right to face the reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsen in a Match. It will be held from 16th June to 5th July at the Palacio de Santona in Madrid, Spain. Eight grandmasters have qualfied to this event in various ways to play in this double Round-Robin event. They are - Ding Liren (CHN), Alireza Firouzja (FRA), Fabiano Caruana (USA), Ian Nepomniachtchi, Richard Rapport (HUN), Hikaru Nakamura (USA), Teimour Radjabov (AZE) and Jan-Krzysztof Duda (POL).
