22nd Dubai Open 2022 R2: Rohith Krishna wins a thriller against Temur Kuybokarov

One of the latest IMs of India, Rohith Krishna S defeated Australia no.2 GM Temur Kuybokarov in Round 2 of 22nd Dubai Open 2022. FM Kashish Manoj Jain, FM Suyog Wagh and Ritviz Parab defeated IM Prraneeth Vuppala, IM Benjamin Haldorsen (NOR) and IM Tahbaz Arash (IRI) respectively. GM Iniyan P once again managed to escape from a difficult position. IM Raahil Mullick had a good opportunity against him. 29 players have made a perfect start 2/2. 52-year-old Harminder Singh wins Below 1600 Rating at Udaipur

52-year-old Harminder Singh scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win Below 1600 Rating tournament. He finished a half point ahead of the field. The event was held in memory of Late Mr. Ramesh Chandra Sharma. Four players scored 8/9 each. Vaishant Kumar Gangwani and Abhinav Chauhan were placed second and third according to tie-breaks. Total prize fund of the tournament was ₹1100000. Top three prizes were ₹111000, ₹71000 and ₹41000 along with a trophy each. The tournament was held between 19th and 21st August 2022 at Udaipur, Rajasthan. 22nd Dubai Open 2022 R1: Aditya Varun Gampa defies Arjun Kalyan

The 22nd edition of Dubai Open is finally back after over three year-long hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. A total of 163 players including 78 Indians are taking part which makes it almost 50% players are Indians. Arjun Erigaisi is the highest rated Indian in the field. Praggnanandhaa is playing his first over-the-board since winning a double Bronze at the 44th Chess Olympiad. He would certainly like to continue his good form from the FTX Crypto Cup 2022. 15 players are rated above 2600. 29 GMs, 29 IMs, 2 WGMs and 3 WIMs are taking part. While the entire focus of India and the world is on the Chess Olympiad 2022, something truly unbelievable is happening in Indian women's chess in Europe! 15-year-old Savitha Shri (born in 2007) is raking in one win after another and has climbed up from 2230 to 2439 on the rating list. She will become India no.4 behind Humpy, Harika, and Vaishali. We conducted a short interview with her, discussing her performances, future goals, and opinions on the ongoing chess Olympiad.

Prasannaa S scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 28th Abu Dhabi Open 2022. The top seed of the tournament conceded his lone draw in the fourth round. GM Arjun Kalyan's brother, 14-year-old Rohit S scored 8/9 to finish second. He gained a massive 109.2 Elo rating points. Four players scored 7.5/9 each. Another 14-year-old, Arnav Maheswari secured the third place based on tie-breaks. The champion won against both runner-ups. Ajith MP triumphs at 3rd ICA Rapid Rating Open 2022

Top seed of the tournament, Ajith MP started the tournament with eight consecutive victories. He lost the last round game against Advait Ratnakar Vibhute. However, that did not deter his championship chances. Ajith, Advait, Abhyuday Santosh and Anirudh Gosakan scored 8/9 each. Ajith won 3rd ICA Rapid Rating Open 2022. The remaining three were placed second to fourth according to tie-breaks. One of the unique element about this tournament iss a low entry fee of ₹250. Arjun Erigaisi convincingly wins 28th Abu Dhabi Masters 2022, now World no.24

Arjun Erigaisi won the must-win final round game against Spain no.4 David Anton Guijarro to clinch 28th Abu Dhabi Masters 2022. He played with the sole purpose of winning the game as he knew that a draw would not be enough to win the tournament. He kept maneuvering until his opponent broke and made a mistake. Javokhir Sindarov (UZB) and Jorden van Foreest (NED) claimed second and third place scoring 7/9 and 6.5/9 each respectively. Six out out of top ten places were claimed by Indians. The remaining five secured sixth to tenth position. They are - Nihal Sarin, Sethuraman S P, Aditya Samant, Karthikeyan Murali and Aryan Chopra. Visakh N R dominates 20th Splimbergo Masters 2022

GM Visakh N R scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to win the tournament. He finished a full point ahead of the competition. Six players scored 6.5/9 each. GM Diptayan Ghosh and IM Alexander Katz (USA) secured second and third place respectively according to their tie-breaks. Visakh's brother IM Vignesh N R and IM P Shyam Nikhil scored 6.5/9 each. They were placed fifth and sixth respectively. IM Sayantan Das and GM Karthik Venkataraman scored 6/9 to secure eighth and tenth place. MPL 35th National Junior 2022 Girls champion, WGM Priyanka Nutakki won the Best Woman prize. The total prize fund of the tournament was €7000. Arjun Erigaisi defeated the top seed Hao Wang (CHN) to regain his sole lead 6.5/8 at 28th Abu Dhabi Masters 2022. He will face Spain no.4 GM David Anton Guijarro in the final round. Nine players are trailing by a half point at 6/8 each. Nihal Sarin, Sethuraman S P and Aryan Chopra are the three Indians among them. IM Aditya Samant drew with Argentina no.1, GM Sandro Mareco. IM Pranesh M scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to win 33rd City of Cannes Summer Open 2022. He finished a half point ahead of the runner-up, Alexandre Bacrot (FRA). Pranesh defeated him in the fifth round. Three players scored 6/9. IM Pavel Govciyan (FRA) secured the third place according to tie-breaks. The 15-year-old winner drew with him in the seventh round. The total prize fund of the tournament was €3200. Top three prizes were €1200, €800 and €500 each along with a trophy each. Arjun Erigaisi drew with Ray Robson (USA) to maintain his lead at 28th Abu Dhabi Masters 2022. Jorden van Foreest (NED), Nodirbek Yakubboev (UZB) and M Amin Tabatabaei (IRI) are the remaining three leaders 5.5/7. IM Aditya S Samant defeated Australia no.2 GM Temur Kuybokarov convincingly. He moved to 5/7 along with Harsha Bharathakoti, Nihal Sarin, Arjun Kalyan, Sethuraman S P, Aryan Chopra and CM Soham Kamotra. Soham defeated GM Leon Luke Mendonca to continue his fantastic unbeaten run. He is gaining a massive 138.8 Elo rating points so far. M.S Nawin wins the 13th Modern School Fide Rated Chess Tournament

M.S. Nawin clinched the 13th Modern School Fide-rated chess tournament, scoring a perfect 7/7. 3 players tied for second place with 6.5/7- Ashwin Sairam, Lukesh A, and Vignesh Kannan P. The tournament took place from 12th-15th August, with a 90+30 time control.  Nawin was the second-highest-rated player in the event, and he increased his rating by 32 points with this victory. "Don't worry, just beat Magnus Carlsen" The Praggnanandhaa Interview

It was a big day for Praggnanandhaa as he beat Magnus Carlsen in the final round of the FTX Crypto Cup 2022. Pragg played fascinating chess and won three games in a row to take home the match in the blitz tiebreaks. After the games ended, we waited for Pragg to arrive for the interview and he did not disappoint! At 3 a.m. he arrived and although he was quite tired, he patiently answered all the questions. Special thanks to Ayushi and Harshil for this interview- the people who made it possible to do interviews of the players right from the venue.
